Yeah, let me guess, the Chinese would send us there?
It sure won't be the cheap-ass anti-science Repubs who will get us to the moon. They're still living in the year 500 B.C.

Amtrak train derails in Washington state
|
OK... Enough about the orange shit gibbon.
As of this morning, it was determined that the Amtrak train was going 80mph in a 30mph zone. Had precautions been put in place that were discussed earlier, that train could have ultimately slowed down for that stretch of track. The mayor of that area brought this very issue up well before that track was open for use. Disclaimer: I am only responsible for what I say, not what you choose to understand.
This is what long term lack of regulation gets you. If this is even chalked up to operator error and speed, it still part of the long term push for big biz to cut costs and hire cheaper labor. No seat belts either and certainly they could move to interactive computers that could automatically regulate speed.
Gonna be really pissed if this is cell phone related.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

When you let big corporations write all our laws for us, you end up with the same damned thing Nader fought with cars and how crappy they were back in the 70s and prior. Even with cars today, unless we get to driverless cars, putting a computer screen on the dash is just as distracting as a cell phone. Trains, like school buses DONT have seat belts, that alone could go a long way to reduce deaths. Many cars now have auto break to avoid rear ending someone. I don't see why the rails cant move to having communication technology that relegates the speed of the train regardless of the error of the operator. This is really no different than how long it took oil to remove lead from gas. If you let big corporations always do whatever they want, they will drag their feet until a disaster pushes enough people to say enough. How pissed are you going to be when this comes down to human error? Wait, your first sentence, you don't care. Then the second sentence, not the humans fault, it's the corporations.

It seems that a "D" engineer laid out the railroad tracks with the hairpin curves that require the trains to slow to a crawl in order to keep from flying off the rails. You might as well take an old stage coach instead of a train if it can't exceed 30 mph.

You might as well take an old stage coach instead of a train if it can't exceed 30 mph. 1. Stage coaches can’t do 30 Miles an hour, if you find one that can, put me in your will and go take it. 2. Most of this route is rated for 79 mph, this turn is rated for 30 mph 3. In case you haven’t noticed, trains have narrow tracks and high centers of gravity, and can’t handle sharp turns and also can’t handle any significant gradient. So unless a country is enlightened enough to see the public merits of true high speed passenger rail and willing to make the investment to buy the rights of way to lay dedicated high speed tracks, there is usually no alternative given the local terrain and existing rights of way to having curves along a rail route that requires the train to slow down from time to time. 4. You live in a country that, even before it jumped off the deep end by installing trump, never even came close to being enlightened enough to appreciate the public merits of true high speed passenger rail to contemplate investing a mile of dedicated track for it, unlike virtually any other developed country. "Technology that forces trains to adhere to speed limits was being installed on the express that crashed in the US state of Washington on Monday but was not yet operational, investigators say." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-42421417 You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid. Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.
Anything to hurry up and make money. Even it if is at the expense of people's lives. What a shame this is what the world has come to.
The victims and the families of those who died should sue the shit out of Amtrak if not for anything other than to set an example of what happens when corporations get greedy and want to hurry up and do things. Lives were taken away because of this ignorance and it is time the corporate giants were held accountable for this.
