Men's Rights Movement
RE: Men's Rights Movement
(December 21, 2017 at 5:55 pm)Divinity Wrote: Actually I'd say that the vast majority of MRA's are anti-woman.  And that's a problem.  Not just for women, but for men.  Because these are the people representing their issues.  And those people aren't even focusing on their fucking issues.  And in fact those MRA's are actually part of the problem.  They talk about shit like how men are being 'feminized'  as if men should be defined specifically by how masculine they are.   They want to reinforce the gender stereotypes that we've always had.  They mistreat men in ways that is disgusting.  Especially gay men.

What are you basing this on exactly?

Male privilege doesnt mean all men are going to enjoy advantages that women dont get to have, but it does mean that men are likely to work less to get a good job than women or that men get to exercise more power and get away with things that women would be quickly condemned for, and so on. By the way, it also doesnt mean that men wont experience disadvantages because of male privilege. Reading alpha_males post makes it clear that so long as men adhere to sexist standards of what constitutes a man, theyll relatively do fine in life, especially if they happen to be white. Because tradition looks very favorably on such men.

Which part or my argument do you disagree with exactly? The alt-right is an ideology, it's a collection of multiple political viewpoints, it's not just anti-feminist. They are also pro-capitalist. Are all pro-capitalists therefore supporters of the alt-right, because that's what you are arguing, that supporting part of an ideology means you support the entire ideology. That's bullshit.

Besides, as I've made clear, I'm not an anti-feminist.

Quote:Tiberius quoted:

"A person who agrees with or supports a sentiment, opinion, or ideology."

And then wrote:
The alt-right is an ideology. I don't support the ideology of the alt-right, therefore I cannot be an alt-right sympathizer.

To clarify the use of commas in the definition YOU chose to provide:
" A person who agrees with or supports a sentiment OR opinion OR ideology."

I know that you know how to English, man.
So please stop with the word games.

Additionally, the Alt Right is set of ideologies, AND groups, AND individuals with whom you do share a seemingly rabidly anti-political correctness stance, and a ludicrously unwavering assessment of feminism, which I expect could inform your views on women in general, but not necessarily so.
I'll discount your claim of being targeted as white male since you're walking it back as a "joke", though I'm fairly certain seen you I've ranting about about white males being under attack in the past; probably in one of the PC discussion threads.

At any rate, you don't have to agree with each and every single component of a given platform to be a sympathizer. I never said that I think you do.
Being a sympathizer only requires for one to be susceptible to some it's core/fundamental tenets.

Also that you got a full tuition because you are a woman of certain race/ethnicity is because it wouldve likely been harder for you to get into that college because of your gender/race

Why would it be harder for me otherwise?

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Edited above. Why was such assistance given to only women in your view?

I feel the need to set the record straight. CL, you and I both incorrectly accused Hammy of the no true scotsman fallacy. Hammy, you were right, we were wrong. And we were wrong because you differentiated true feminism from what you consider false feminism in your statement. That's not the no true scotsman fallacy. If Hammy had said "Feminism is X" and then we criticized an aspect of X, and then he said that the particular criticism didn't apply because that particular aspect of X is not true feminism, then he WOULD have been committing the fallacy. But what he was doing was simply differentiating true feminism from false feminism, and while he might still have been erroneous in his assertions, his logic was sound. Sorry, Hammy.

I wasn't trying to argue FOR mra's, just saying the documentary showed me they make some valid points that I hadn't before considered. No one here is arguing for mra's.

I hope you get nothing but good shit for Christmas.

I have no idea. My husband certainly worked much harder than I did, did better, and got nothing.

Perhaps because of all your dainty cuteness?  I dunno.
