In the absence of actual vote tampering, the question of whether the outcome of the election was changed by Russian interference is difficult, if not impossible to answer. One could argue that the release of the DNC emails irreparably damaged Clinton, that the fake news posts on Facebook and other social media helped swing votes away from her too. Without that interference, would she have clung on in more swing states? Nobody knows.

Is this foreign interference that could have helped swing votes toward Hillary?

Sure, why not. I'm not sure if many US voters would be swayed by the opinions of foreign leaders, but I'm sure there are some that exist.

I think we need to be careful to distinguish between foreign leaders endorsing someone, and hacking into emails, spreading fake news & propaganda, though.

The mere possibility that a foreign power, and a historic adversary at that, could have possibly interfered with our election process is bad for our democracy.

Or one could call it comeuppance?

Trump might have more business ties to Russia than he admits to. Several members of the Trump campaign have been accused of being foreign agents working for Russian interests. There's a lot of stuff being investigated.

The way I see it, there are ethical issues with doing business with a country that is run by plutocratic kleptocrats, with an appalling human rights record and with the explicit support of christian authoritarians.

Dodgy

I thought the Russians had higher standards than that.

Maybe. Do you want me to post some threads where Mini does the same and you don't call him out on it? Includes one thread in which you participated, so no excuses.  Smile

Just make sure you don't add "please keep it up" you should be okay.

I think that's kinda the point of this snippet (go to 0:33):

Sounds to me like that was a public request for electoral help that, by the way, you seem to agree they answered handsomely.

I'm not Hillary white-knight, I voted Libertarian in 2016, but this ... this is a facepalm moment for those denying collusion. He asked for foreign help in an American election, and what do we hear? "But what about Hillary?" She lost. Trump is President. What did he ask for, and when did he ask for it?

The crux of it, really, is not whether Team Trump did or didn't receive a nice crisp pass from the russians..or even whether or not they were directly involved in receiving it.  That much is known and documented.  As is the later obstruction of justice.  As are his (and his family's) extensive financial dependencies on russian oligarchs and their money. This information..all of it, bumblingly offered up by none other than Trump and his own damned children.

All anyone is actually wondering (or investigating) is whether or not Team Trump was too fucking stupid to realize that they were being tooled out.  I suppose..there at least, they may be able to mount a credible defense.

OK, then interference in our elections by foreign powers in general isn't considered an issue, as there's no uproar over those endorsements.

We interfere in other governments when it suits us. Yes, governments have an interest in the form and leadership of other countries. Always have, always will. This only became a big deal because Trump.

As noted, the important thing about the email hacks was the content found. Regarding fake news and propaganda, the onus is on the candidates to point it out if they see it. Candidates themselves spread fake news and propaganda all the time - I don't see that a foreign power adding to it is a threat to our system.

Quote:A top CNN reporter admitted on Sunday that American’s do not care about the left-leaning network’s seemingly 24/7 negative coverage of the Trump-Russia investigation.

The surprising confession on CNN’s “Inside Politics” was made by CNN national political reporter Maeve Reston who said that voters do not care about the investigation because it does not really affect them and the one issue that voters do care about — the economy — is strong.

“You are starting to see that uneasiness about the economy sort of dissipate,” Reston said. “Remember, even in 2016 when we went out to these swing states and talked to voters, there was still this fear that things were suddenly going to turn down again. You don’t feel that as much anymore.”

“I’m so interested to see how the Russia investigation affects things because so far, out in these districts when you talk to people about Russia, and that’s all we talk about at CNN basically, they say they don’t care,” Reston continued. “It doesn’t have any effect on their lives.”

And the Church at the time of Galileo didn't give a shit about what he said in stating the fact that the SUN and not the earth was the center of our solar system.

It should matter to any sane person that 17 intel agencies all agreed that Russia WAS interfering, and just last month even Facebook admitted that lots of crap coming out of Russia was bleeding into America.

I DO CARE because Putin is the product of a very brutal era started by a very brutal dictator in Stalin. Putin is a KGB thug and wants to take Russia back to the old Soviet days and "KGB" agents were their spies, so do not tell me Putin is innocent in  all this.

Just stop defending that asshole. 50 REPUBLICAN law agents last year warned us of 45s dangerous rhetoric and ineptness.

Not 17... 3. CIA, FBI, NSA. And I don't trust those three to tell the truth as far as I could spit a brick.

Four if you include the Director of National Intelligence who would have just taken the recommendation of the other three.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for the evidence showing that Russia stole the emails. Assange maintains that it was a leak and not a hack.

Russian ads on facebook? Maybe I'm just really bad at math, but Hillary outspent Trump and Russia combined by hundreds of millions of dollars. I fail to see how advertising was unfair to Hillary when she spent way more. How does that add up? The person that was outspent two to one is the person that had the unfair advantage in advertising? Anyone care to explain how this makes even a little bit of sense?

The Trump admin is being pretty damn hawkish with Russia right now, so I don't think people have to worry too much about the US government being controlled by Putin.
