What is it that he finds to be more important and urgent than those things?

 Your salvation, Jesus died so you could have it. What you speak about is the physical, God is interested in your eternal soul even when you are not. God has put us here to feed the hungry and discover ways to cure diseases and other useful things, when will you start to help these people.
