Paul Ryan, meet Reality.  Reality, this is Paul Ryan.  Now smack him right between the eyes.

Quote:Paul Ryan deletes tweet about meager pay raise after furious backlash

Quote:Social media users are blasting Speaker of the House Paul Ryan on Twitter after he boasted about the GOP tax bill by sharing a story of a Pennsylvania teacher seeing a pay increase of a little over a dollar a week.

“A secretary at a public high school in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, said she was pleasantly surprised her pay went up $1.50 a week she said [that] will more than cover her Costco membership for the year,” Ryan tweeted.

Idiot.

I'm old enough to remember the good old days when politicians put more than 3 seconds of thought into their bullshit. Jesus, is there anyone left in DC who understands the most basic things about PR? It's amateur hour 24/7 these days.

Well we've gone from 2 minute adds on TV back in the 50s and 60s, to 1 minute adds in the 70s and 80s to 30 seconds in the 90s to now as low as 5 to 10 seconds on TV and social media now.

Add to that garbage like Mortan Downy whom paved the way for Jerry Springer, crap like "The Real World", Farts News, and getting rid of the fairness doctrine. Mix in the destruction of anti monopoly concepts over that same period, you end up with a public with a short attention span.

My tax burden went up by $50 per pay period between my last two paychecks. I make $70k/year.

This pay stub had the "This payroll is using the new Federal Tax rates" notice on it.

To be fair, if you live in a more rural part of the country 70K can be enough. But if you live in an expensive city like NYC or SF, or an expensive county like Fairfax County Va, 70 might as well be 30k.

But either way, that still hurts, but the Walmart family, Koch brothers and Goldman Sachs CEOS are going to make a killing and pocket their returns.

70k might be enough? 70k is an excellent salary compared to most of the country.

Never tried owning a house in a high-cost area, huh?

When we moved to Arizona in 2005 my real estate taxes went from $16,800 to $1,410.  Of course, the schools are shitty out here but hey, real estate taxes are low.

That is the shell game the GOP plays.

Some would argue in silicon valley that the low wage workers, shit, even teachers cant cut it. And they are right, and it is also a blue state. GOP would argue "see see see see!"

But when you strip the Red vs Blue crap out of it, and you focus on 3 decades of power control averages nationwide, and Reagan's failed "trickle down", it is clear that while blue states do better, it is still greed that either drives up the price everywhere, or greed that drives down wages everywhere.

Yeah I'm not sure where he got lost there. Big Grin

My point was that I am right in the "middle class" income bracket, and my taxes just went up by $1200 a year.

Yea, but that cut will get negated long term by fuckfaces like 45 and the Kochs and Walmart family.

They cant figure out that math. You might not get hurt as an individual being in the middle class. My mom was able to take care of me being a single mom, and she made less. Point is, I see tons of middle class and even poor people far more generous than 45 or the Walmart family.

When you see "charity" being used corporate America and or the religious, it isn't to weed people off of dependency, but to maintain it.

If I made 70k per year, it would depend on where I lived that that hike mattered. But if I am Bill Gates rich to complain at that point would be sick.

My mom died as everyone knows. She saved well for me and I cant repay her for that. I can say if I made every year, as like a job, what she left me, instead of 1 lump, I'd find it hard for my taxes to go up and bitch. I am worried since it is a 1 time deal for me, how much I have to pay, because it has to last me until I reach social security, IF we still have that at that point.
