Terry Goodkind's 'Sword of Truth' book series
#11
RE: Terry Goodkind's 'Sword of Truth' book series
From what I gather, the books devolved into a right wing screed in fantasy form. I read the first two and a half books, and stopped simply because they became a depressing slog. Goodkind also wasn't/isn't a very good writer in a technical sense. His prose is largely artless.

All IMO, of course, but there's far better fantasy out there.

I also read the books that tie the 'Word and the Void' series by Terry Brooks into it.

Years ago I read all of the "Wheel of Time" books. Have you gotten into the Brandon Sanderson written ones yet? I "read" his "Mistborn Trilogy" (audiobooks) much more recently and I remember that better.

Lol I'm 195 pages into the first book I have not got to those books by Sanderson yet :p I'm not allowed to start anymore series until I read what I have so since I have all of Wheel of Time and Sword of Truth to read I doubt I will ever get to another series hehe

If you'll never get through those, then just go get the ones b Sanderson instead. Jordan is so dirivitive and Goodkind so repetitive e that neither are worth the waste of time. Read something brilliant and original instead. "Elantris* is a great example of Sanderson' work without having to invest in a series.

Oh I'm enjoying Jordan it's just hard to find time to read now that I got a promotion (actually have to work now lol) and I'm a new mom. Really only my lunch hour is free from pestering employees and screaming infants. Mix that with 15 books that are all roughly the same size of this first one which is over 800 pages and it will take a long time to finish. It took me a year to finish George R.R. Martin's series but then again a lot of those books bored me so I didn't care for reading and would put it off when I was at passages like Sansa's. lol

I had forgotten that deities are mentioned in the series. The Creator (god) and The Keeper (devil). It still baffles me that the writer would have included such mythological nonsense in a series that purports to value the harsh truth of reality over the comfortable lie of religion.

Ditch them. Start collecting Pratchett, including his kids books.

Yeah, that's how I am with books. I try to limit myself to one to make it easier to finish.
Now I'm reading two books at once despite my best intentions.

You're in for a treat! Robert Jordan gives a background story to even minor characters, which I always thought was cool. That definitely contributes to the often +500 page count.

I gave up on Jordan after the third book once I realised he was pulling a LaJenkins, ie turning an idea that was good for, at best, three books into a massive sprawling anthology, massively weakening his premise.

I do acknowledge that Jordan was a much better author than Jerry Jenkins.

You're talking about the guy that did "Left Behind"? I read like the first 8 of those when I was a Christian. They did drag on unnecessarily.

Thankfully, I never read those books. When I was a theist, however, I did read Frank Peretti's books.

I read all 48 Left Behind kids books. Honestly that's the only reason I know anything about the apocalypse lol
