The fastest girl in my school went on to do track in college and then disappeared in one of the most famous missing persons cases of my lifetime. We were in the same grade at school. She was a super nice kid. It sucks that they haven't found her or at least her body. Her dad, who I believe still lives in my hometown, has been looking for her for 15 years or so.

Wow, she must really be fast if they were never able to find her.

Sorry.

You know, I initially thought she had run off. Then, I thought she couldn't have been abducted because she could run so fast and the situation would have allowed her to. Then, I realized she's probably dead.

Oh my gosh!

...I've read about her case a shit ton and watched tons of documentaries. I am convinced she ran into the woods and died there from the cold/exposure. It's the only thing that makes sense.

...But that's not a good story, so documentaries will keep making it seem like its some sort of big mystery what happened to her. Usually, the simplest explanation for these sorts of things is the right one.

I think she may have as well. However, the dogs didn't track her past the intersection, which could mean she was picked up. Also, she'd had to have been drunk or really scared to have done that. New Englanders tend to know better than to wander into the woods in New Hampshire in the winter. It's one or the other, but she definitely didn't run away from her family and start a new life. Also, don't believe all the bullshit negative stories about her. People have made up all kinds of shit. There's no evidence whatsoever that Fred hurt her or that she was pregnant. She was just a normal kid as long as I knew her.

I don't want to de-rail this thread. Feel free to start one on the topic, if you want to chat with moi about it.

Yeah I know about the dogs. There's been plenty of other cases where dogs didnt pick up much, and years later they find the person's body right there in the woods. The case of John Glasgow comes to mind. Using dogs is not an exact science. (Also, the gloves they used for her scent were brand new and hardly worn, so not much scent there)

I don't think she got into another car. She was only unaccounted for for 7 minutes, and if she refused a ride from the school bus driver, I don't see why she'd take one from some random stranger driving by. At least school bus drivers are more trust worthy.

Also, she asked the bus driver not to call the cops. She didn't wanna get caught having been drinking and driving (which she was) and having crashed yet another car.

To me, it seems clear she ran into the woods because she was hiding from the cops, had alcohol in her, and didn't wanna get in trouble... and just ended up dying in there. Maybe she originally planned on just hiding until she sobered up.

And yeah, she wasn't pregnant lol.

I'm pretty sure they used her running clothes/shoes, CL. They were in the trunk of the car. Also, she could have refused the bus driver and then went with a stranger because the bus driver was more likely to turn her in. It's one or the other. We can't possibly know for sure.

Speaking of running and natural human athleticism.....we're the worlds greatest distance running species.  On a long enough path, we can run just about any animal to death, literally.  The longer the run goes, the greater the advantage to being female.  We know this, because the ratio of top female athletes destroying top male athletes increases with duration of active competition.

It may be that males have an inherent advantage in some sport x y or z..but that's not "the average male".  Pro athletes are by no means average regardless of sex, and I wouldn't put any money on me trying to beat any pro female at her sport.  However, would it really be surprising that games designed by males for males to play would favor..wait for it..male physiology?

This doesn't make them stronger, faster, or more fit, it simply means that the game conditions of x y or z predominantly favor them.  Have you ever seen a sprinter try to compete with marathon runners?  It's embarrassing. Looks great for the first 100m..after that it's a shitshow. The question, though..is who's faster, whose stronger, based upon the metrics of those game conditions? Addressing it this way expresses the arbitratity in declarations of the "fittest" or strongest or fastest gender. There is no such thing, particularly not "on average"....and the concept has limited utility with biological outliers as they approach parity over time.

Taking a stereotypicaly "male" sporting event into consideration, for a counterpoint..it;s worthwhile to mention that there are only a handful of males in the history of the world who have ever lifted more than any comparable weight class in females...and females haven't exactly been pouring into weightlifting for all of that time.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. Since when is athleticism contingent on who is in the Olympics?

Are you using contingent in the correct way? Anyway what better way to measure athletics than: athletics?

Yes, I am using it correctly. Since when is a gender only considered athletic dependent upon how many sports there are for that gender in the Olympics? Is that easier to understand?

You can't measure the overall athleticism of a gender on sports. Athleticism is a set of characteristics that a person can have even if they've never played a sport in their lives.

I think this is a matter of semantics with the word "athletic". It seems you both agree that men are physically stronger/faster than women and so are better at most sports because they have that advantage.

Not what I originally posted, I posted that both genders in the same events of the Olympics have different levels (male being much higher level) for example quicker sprinting times and higher jumping lengths. Not that there are more male than female events. Now if the levels of athletic ability are different in the exact same Olympic events, it means males are more athletic than females.
