Atheists: If God suddenly made his presence known... would you shit bricks?
Got accused in my thread about if god was real why should we worship him, that the question was loaded. :-(

So, here is a question loaded in the other direction relating to a real living god.

The theists can join in quite happily here and explain why we should be shitting bricks.

I'd try very hard not to because I've always taught my children not to be scared or to be subservient to bullies so I would also hope that would be true of myself as well.

I'd be delighted to have the chance to speak with God. I'd be a great honor, in fact. I'd take the opportunity to offer some constructive criticism.

"Thank You for this experience of life, God. It's a great universe overall but there are a few issues I'd like to bring to Your attention if You're open to ways to make it even better."

"My first request is on behalf of my female counterparts. Regarding the miracle of childbirth, could be make the female pelvis a little wider so the miracle isn't quite so painful and dangerous?"

"Walking upright was a great upgrade from previous models. There's just one problem. Now the entire upper body is supported by a narrow column of bone. It's flexible so its not entirely a bad design but could we find a way to reinforce it to allow for a bit of excess capacity. It'll lead to fewer back problems later in the human's life."

"Oh, and while You're here, could you set all the religious nuts straight? Some of them are actually killing in Your name. Others are raising money off the poor and gullible in exchange for promises in Your name. Too many are standing in the way of intellectual progress and the application of Your Gift of Reason."

RE: Atheists: If God suddenly made his presence known... would you shit bricks?
Define god.

Let me proceed with a generic definition of a entity that, when his existence is made known, would be perceived by large fractions of human population as fitting the practical working definition of a god in their respective cultures. if such a god were to suddenly make his existence known, that still doesn't say much about his goals, motivations, descernments and capabilities. A priori, there is no reason to childishly anthropomorphize an entity so significantly different from us and attribute to him what are fundamentally human behavioral traits, such as social expectation, amger, pleasure, good intent, malice, jeolousy, etc, that are rooted in the homo's particular social and evolutionary history. So initially there would be neither any justification to fear this god, nor think that exhibition of fear could do any good.

So my first reaction is to learn more about this god, particularly about aspects of him that are apparently not being intentionally exhibited or communicated to us.

If a god suddenly made his presence known, I'd probably quote Debra Morgan (from Dexter):
"Shit a brick and fuck me with it!"

"If there are gaps they are in our knowledge, not in things themselves." Chapman Cohen

"Shit-apples don't fall far from the shit-tree, Randy." Mr. Lahey

I'm already here. [Image: imveryhappyplz.png]

Realistically, if any living deity were to reveal themselves, they'd likely be bagged and tagged. Either that or they'd have to go in to witness protection.

"If we could just find out who's in charge, we could kill him." ~ George Carlin

My personal reaction? I'd run off to find the evidence both supporting and contradicting the supposed deity's claim. So I suppose it wouldn't be too very different.

The fact we can debate if things exist or not, except for our personal existence, proves that we are inhabiting matter. This is the soul.

The image of Tinker Bell pinned to the bottom of a insect specimen box with the label “microhomo tinkerbellus" under her feet come to mind.
