Nope. The point was that if there was an uncharted bar or sunken tree or whatever, the tow would hit it first, and the "tow boat" could try and fix the mess.

Designated donkey. Washed dishes, swabbed decks, pulled on lines, anything a body with no brains could do. I also happened to be a former Engineman in the USN, so I knew a wee bit about diesel engines.
