Disproving Odin - An Experiment in arguing with a theist with Theist logic
RE: Disproving Odin - An Experiment in arguing with a theist with Theist logic
Poor Huggy, he is always  ready to trot out his eye-witness horseshit.  Of course, now we know that eye witnesses are notoriously unreliable but that would cause his head to explode!

But of course, anyone who claimed to hear or see fucking jesus is different, eh Huggy?

See the great thing about Theists in general is we don't give a swish.

Then why a big online forum to talk and complain about about the thing you don't care about.

Because you fuckers keep showing up to talk about your fucking fairy tales.

Actually I do get the thread. You can't prove there is no god or Odin or Santa Claus, of FSM .......because you can't supply irrefutable evidence for the non-existence of something .....that does not exist.

When there is no evidence for something to exist it falls on the believers to supply the evidence that the god or Odin or whatever does exist.

However when Huggy starts bringing out the 3 corroborated untrue fabricated factoids, I have to call him on it.

A photograph of god.....common......get serious.

I've got a few photos of Santa Claus I can throw up on a website, and I'm just guessing I could find a few hundred thousand kids out there to provide eye witness accounts, about Santa Claus, and audio ..... well no problem at all.

So there must be a Santa..... HoHoHo Smile

That would be 3 pieces of corroborative evidence.

Can anyone provide the same for Odin? If not then it isn't exactly "potato, potaho" is it?

Can we interrogate the eye witnesses directly?

Do you have a photograph of your god (and preferably a negative, to ensure it hasn't been retouched)?

And what audio recordings are these?  I'm reasonably sure there were no analog or digital audio recorders in Biblical times.

I don't give a rat's ass about the testimony, photos or audio recordings of believers.  That's at least third-hand evidence due to the passage of time, and in any event people believe a lot of weird things for not particularly good reasons..

You don't get it, the point is can you provide the same for Odin?

Btw if you were an eye witness then you'd have no choice but to be a believer... Isn't that what you guys say? If you saw evidence you'd believe?

If I witnessed something strange/unfamiliar to me flying in the sky, I wouldn't just believe it was an alien spaceship. I'd need far more conclusive evidence than that.

But when it comes to Odin, obviously, Odin is an exception. Here's the mighty Odin full glory:

Here's some eye witness testimony for you! Odin is here right now. I'll even ask him any questions you have for him. I'll get as many people as you like to verify it.

Will this be accepted, or will there be a sudden firewall of scepticism?

Why should I?  I'm not playing by *your* rules -- I'm playing by mine.

As I see it, the claim for the Christian deity is on exactly the same playing field as every other god every conceived by humanity.  In the absence of testable physical evidence, all that remains are believers' testimonies and scriptures.  For me, that's not good enough and it will never be good enough.

I can believe in things without worshipping them, you know.  There are a number of people whose existence I do not question, but I wouldn't trust 'em any further than I can throw 'em.  Your alleged god falls squarely in that category -- Uninspiring, erratic and not in the least bit respect-worthy.

Oðinn, on the other hand, I do respect as an archetype and a role model with no particular concern as to whether such a being does exist.  That's why I took the surname Odinsdóttir when I assumed this persona on the Internet.

ETA: Oh, you have the etymology of the name wrong, too. Oðinn doesn't mean "one"; it means "rage."

Laugh it up, it's not like I haven't already posted it but then you wouldn't know this since you're a straight up newb.

Proof if anything that religion wrecks the same devastation on the brain as a lifetime of hard drugs.

But that would be because they act in similar ways.

The more I learn about how religionists think the more I realise that they should be considered mentally ill.

If it were to be classified as a mental illness (and good luck getting it into the DSM), it would have to also be classified as an endemic condition because of the way it clusters in groups and its vector of transmission.  It would be more accurate to call it a sociological disease rather than a psychological one.
