Largest state:  Virginia  747,000 *

Smallest state:  Delaware:  59,000

Now, of course, things have changed.  We have the absurd situation where Wyoming has two senators with a population of 579,000 whereas California has a population of 39,54 million.

That's the amusing thing about american politics. If being in the same political quadrant as either bush or any other republican..for example..makes a candidate suitable...Hillary should have been suitable to republicans. She was more right leaning. Apparently, though, the -right- went with an ever so slightly more leftward candidate.

And the wholesome experienced and accomplished moderate Romney should have been acceptible to Democrats over his inexperienced blank-slate rival...

You'd consider Mitt Romney a moderate?  That's a great example of what I was discussing in the quoted comments.  Mittens, Hitlery, Osama Bin Obama...The Trumpster......all of these people are very close to each other on the political compass, all of them are right leaning authoritarians.  

They're nowhere near the center of anything individually or collectively....except the point between the center and the far right authoritarian border of the map.  

More accurately...and you express this in your post, people are deciding that one candidate is "evil" and the other "wholesome"..not responding to where they stand vis a vis right or left, authoritarian or libertarian.

unwholesome POTUS like LBJ and letchers like JFK I can handle, so long as it stays private and doesn't bleed into politics, eg. Nixon. But evil...no...I cannot abide a POTUS that leaves 13 for dead on foreign soil and blames it on a video.
