Answered Prayers as Proof of God
November 19, 2010 at 12:21 am
It is claimed that answered prayers strengthen the argument for the existence of God.
If that is so, why are unanswered prayers not counted against the existence of God?
Can we really accept as evidence a test where negative results are disregarded?

The people who usually believe that shit are in line with the ones who believe astrologers or palm readers or tarot card readers, those who claim to talk to the dead, etc. They completely ignore any evidence against because they WANT to believe in the subject so badly that anything refuting it is summarily ignored.

If God answers my prayers with my relatively small problems but ignores the plight of starving children, then It may need to work on Its priority setting and time management skills.
Seriously, I think when prayer "works", it has more to do with the individual subconsciously making decisions as a result. For example, if you pray to get a job, and that gives you confidence during your job interviews and leads you to make decisions that lands you a desired job, it might "work" but not because of divine intervention. It's a placebo.

How else is someone going to get a reliable car without the assistance of god via prayers?!?!? That's proof enough for me!

Not to mention getting a fresh supply of paper towels!

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

I don't even believe in the asshole but he keeps showing up in my bedroom.

I think the traditional response is.
'god answers all prayers, its just that mainly the answer is 'no''
