So Tell Me You Barbaric Rebel Shitwit

RE: So Tell Me You Barbaric Rebel Shitwit
We have individuals entirely responsible for their marijuana doses in some locales, at least for prescription opiates an actual med school degreed doctor is part of the process.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

It's my understanding that in the US, the DEA has been cracking down on overprescibers, and also pressuring doctors to write fewer opioid prescriptions in general.

I can say it's a lot harder to get a needed RX even for Vicodin / Norco (*). The last time I needed it, I'd get a 3 day supply if taken as directed, I'd get chastised for using it anywhere near that fast, and it took at least 2 days to get a refill approved, and then I'd have to go pick up a paper scrip. In the end, I often went days without any effective pain relief, and I eventually gave up trying. For legit, necessary use, that's madness.

(*) As vorlon13 notes, ain't gonna kill you from the opioid, but the acetaminophen / paracetamol eventually will if you abuse it. I had a friend die - slowly - of acetaminophen toxicity. An opioid overdose by comparison is humane.

It seems to me that executing drug dealers ain't gonna do a thing to dry up the demand, but yeah, it's a solution that resonates with some demographics and it's a lot cheaper and easier than, you know, treating addiction.

Easy enough to relapse, damn hard to find a spot in a treatment/rehab program.

Cannabis cannot kill you in any quantity that you could reasonably consume. Well, unless someone drops an enormous bale of it on you. Or you smoke yourself to cancer, etc. Edibles FTW.

As to the second part, hardly. Do you have any idea how much of this shit gets diverted to the black market, presumably from unscrupulous prescribers or manufacturers (whether directly by malfeasance or indirectly via theft). Surely you aren't so naive that you aren't aware of this.

The trend line is for ever more individual, municipal, county, and state control of such things.  Draconian attempts at cracking the whip with death penalties and longer prison terms at the federal level will be rejected by more and more locales.  The horse is out of the barn, so to speak, and the system (or non-system) will continue to evolve from there.

I think we are tasked with finding a way of making opiate addiction 'work' somehow, there not being an alternative that will be palatable from border to border, coast to coast in reigning it in.
