UGGGGGGGGG......

What does cheap gas or expensive gas have to do with the fact we need to stop burning fossil fuels?

I don't think anyone likes their rent or cable bills going up either.

Big oil and corporate America who profit off pollution love the distraction of price.

Our planet needs to move to renewable and clean energy and get off of coal and oil.  No different to me than the car industry finally learned to market seat belts and air bags after Nadar rightfully faced the industry that their products were not safe.

The gas station closest to my house is $3.19 last I checked.

I take transit (free) or drive an electric car at .02 / mile (4 miles per kwh at around .08 per) most of the time.

The internal combustion ride is only for road trips or when the golf cart needs a charge.

It's not worth it unless you're driving a shitload of miles. My wife used to be all over gas prices (prolly learned it from her dad) until one day I pointed this out.

This.

In my ICE ride, a nickle or a dime, or even more cheaper isn't going to make enough of a difference. I usually need 10-12 gallons when I fill, which is usually only a couple times per month. It's really not worth spending any time going out of my way.

Now, when gas was 3.75-4.50 per gallon and it cost $80+ to fill my POS 10mpg SUV, yeah then it mattered.

I know this guy who would go ten miles out of his way to save a nickle back in the 80's when gas was in the neighborhood of a dollar a gallon.

You know this is why i like electric cars and renewable energy time for the EU to ban gasoline and get with the future since renewables are cheaper and
i mean a hell of a lot cheaper. That and if we want humans to be around in the 50 years it would be a good start.

It's about $3/gallon here in northern California. Still cheap, though, compared to some other countries. I think we're spoiled in the US when it comes to gasoline prices.

I used to manage a convenience store/ gas station in South Central Texas. Each morning at 6am, I, or the other manager, would drive around the block. We would write down what the nearest three gas stations were selling gas at. Then we would post our prices 5 cents lower. The corporation that owned the convenience market purchased a million gallons at a time from Texaco. Did not matter whether they sold above or below the purchase price. Gas was just a draw to get you to also purchase fountain drinks, cigarettes, beer, hot dogs, etc. All of which had huge profit margins.

Looking at that, I was way off on the taxes, but still - to be the highest in the country - well... it is a "common wealth" state.

Nope.  Simple manipulation by the energy companies looking to soak the public.  Fucking scum.

Well Min, the big oil companies manipulate gas prices by controlling the supply. US supply is down despite increased domestic production because the big oil companies have reduced imports more than the increase in domestic production. This week alone US reserves are down 2.6 million barrels. That's about an 1/8 of days supply BTW.

A couple of years ago OPEC was pumping oil as fast as they could. They wanted the price to fall in a bid to put US production companies, who have to spend more to get the oil out of the ground, out of business. As a result, gas prices around here fell to less than $2 a gallon and stayed there for a while. It almost worked. A lot of the US production companies failed. Tens of thousands of US oil workers lost their jobs. But the strongest of the US companies survived, and eventually, OPEC reduced production because the lower crude prices were hurting them as much or more than they were hurting us. When they did that prices started to go up again. Crude prices have doubled since then. Supply and demand does play a big role in energy prices whether you accept it or not.

None of this has anything to do with the price manipulation that goes on at Wall Street, but you can't blame the oil companies for that part of it.

I hope you put it back when you're done.

Around here gas goes down slowly from a peak by about 20¢/gal. over a few weeks, then rebounds overnight.
