She started as a foster on January 1. We adopted her in April. She had some anemia, but it was getting better with steroids.

She will be sorely missed.

Wow, sorry, condolences.

I hope this is not a trend.

Yeah, I am back to making sure all the pets are breathing again.  Happens whenever we lose one.

I see a blue tongue, natural pigment or health related?

Natural. She was part chow. Art least, that’s our guess.

This has really been a crappy 24+ hours. Knowing what needed to be done and then thinking it through till I could take action sucked. Holding Chewch and stroking her as she took her last breaths was awful but I was the only one who could do it. Cleaning the toys out of her cage...also awful. She had some that were nearly brand new. I kept a few that may be small enough for Zeus and kept parts because I often build or alter toys to work better.

Mike was ready to haul her cage to the curb. I don't think he wanted any reminders but I told him no...maybe someone on FB or Facebook marketplace would want it. It's a nice cage on wheels and in good shape.

It's been so quiet without her usual talk time that happened at least twice every day.

It's a big change after 30 years. It was not a good night last night or a good day today. But it was the right thing to do. We are pretty sure she suffered a stroke and there was no coming back from that.

Damn it.

I should have her ashes back by the end of the week. I need to get a picture or two printed.

The worst thing about pet ownership is saying goodbye.

30 years is a long relationship. You will find yourself expecting her voice, her sounds, for longer than you might think. For me, it is morning coffee, when Lucy's tail would hit the coffee table like a metronome. I miss that sound.

I am so sorry for your loss. After so much time, it must feel like a punch in the chest.

*hugs*
