A dog that leaves sunshine skid marks. Couldn't get any better! Smile

Does he lunge at the food you are offering, like our spaniel does? You have to toss a treat or hold your hand out flat like feeding a horse, or you'll get nipped. She got me on the right pinky weeks ago, and the nail has just cleared the nail bed from the bite. The wife uses high volume aversion therapy to get her to not lunge at treats, but I prefer to just toss it or use an open hand.

ETA- Is that dog descended from Charles Manson? He's got that look...  Hehe

He actually takes treats very nicely, as does my other male. The little female, the oldest of the pack, will take a finger off if you aren't careful.

Ziggy lays near the food bowl when Quinn tries to eat. He doesn't do anything to stop him from being able to eat but it drives Quinn crazy (which isn't a long trip). When he was little he did this weird purring noise...it sounds a little tougher now but not much. We call it "The Great Food Bowl Standoff". It's an every day thing.

HAHA - No, but he is from Waco. There's been plenty of crazy there.

We started off feeding the spaniel in our bedroom after we adopted her. The pound people were going to destroy her because they considered her "vicious", and didn't want us to adopt her. My wife saw something there that convinced her that the dog wasn't vicious. She has issues, for sure. We still can't feed the two dogs side by side, for example. I'd say that based on her treatment at the pound, I can understand her not liking medical people. Whenever she sees that sort of clothing, she gets upset. They rolled her up in a towel to do their work, which I can appreciate that she didn't like. When I'm out walking her, she gets her back up at gardeners and roofers, for example. Not sure what to make of that, though. She also doesn't like people with their trousers hanging off their asses.  Hehe I suspect that there may have been people dressing so in her past, who didn't treat her well. She's going to the vet tomorrow for a dental cleaning. Given that she gets upset enough to have accidents whenever she goes to the vet, I'm expecting it now. Poor thing. Our little Maltese dogs weren't smart enough to be traumatized like that. They were little sweeties.

I'm glad you and your wife are providing a loving home for her.

We used to have a rescue dog and there were certainly issues though she was pretty young when we got her. Someone left her and her brother and sister in a box in a Walmart parking lot. They were too young to be away from their mother...the little boy sadly didn't make it. Lady was always a little twitchy even though her traumas happened so young. Sudden movements frightened her and thunder sent her into a quivering mess.

My African Grey is a rescue...more or less. She was owned by a young man who joined the military and wasn't able to take her along. His parents had her at their house and she HATED the mom. Turns out the woman would take her cage outside and spray it and the bird down with the hose. Greys like to bathe but don't like to shower. For a long time she lunged at me every time I was near her cage though she was okay with my husband and son. She's a lot better now but hell, it's been about 25 years.

I hate that people treat animals badly and then the animal gets blamed for being skittish.

Good luck with the dental tomorrow. One of mine had that done earlier this year.

Has your vet offered the option to sedate her prior to the visit? We give our female trazodone, just enough to take the edge off and get her thru the door. The vet can then give additional sedation depending on the visit purpose/procedure.

Yup. The first time we took her to the vet was right after getting her out of durance vile, and she wasn't having any of that examination. We got a prescription for trazodone; she's getting that in a minute or so.

Adopted this crazy beast eight years ago this month. His new evil act is to plant himself on Ziggy's spot on the couch. Ziggy will look back and forth between the cat and me hoping I will take pity and make the cat move. This is after the cat has stolen, then abandoned, multiple (expensive memory foam) dog beds purchased specifically for Zig as he has a wonky hip.
