Churches, Freemason Lodges, Casinos, convents, all had equal status with me when I was a kid. I had nothing to do in any of them so they could have been solid blocks of brick or stone insofar as I knew. It wasn't a matter of belief, it was a matter of "so what?"

Because people who agree with the OP want everyone to think atheists are just people who go around blissfully ignorant of a fundamental question of human existence, i.e. "Does God exist?" It is question that demands an answer and how someone answers determines whether or not he or she is an atheist, theist, or agnostic. The possible answers are yes, no, and maybe. That's it. Everything else is just evasive puffery.

Is that a fundamental question of human existence? Here I was thinking it was just something loons wander around asking themselves on the regular.
"agnostic", for the billionth time, isn't a third category of belief. It's a comment on knowledge, not on belief. Most atheists -and- theists are also agnostics.

Quote:Because people who agree with the OP want everyone to think atheists are just people who go around blissfully ignorant of a fundamental question of human existence,Nobody ever said were ignorant the notion of being exposed to an idea and judging that idea are two very different things . Only morons like Matthew Slick think otherwise Quote:"Does God exist?" Not even close to the most fundamental question . Not even in the top ten. It important to you Wooter. Quote: It is question that demands an answer and how someone answers determines whether or not he or she is an atheist,Nope simply false Quote:theist, or agnostic. The possible answers are yes, no, and maybe. That's it. Everything else is just evasive puffery.False the possible answers are I don't accept the proposition but don't claim with positive certainty that it is false. Negative agnostic atheism I do accept the proposition but don't claim positive certainty that it is true Negative agnostic theism I do not accept the proposition and do claim certainty that it is false Positive Gnostic atheism I do the proposition and do claim certainty that it is true Positive Gnostic theism And of course i think of other variation adding Non cognitivism, Apatheism , Igtheism , Pantheism, etc It's not that these positions are flawed they just don't fit Wooters ideological agenda

It's not that I want to think that, it's the truth. You don't have the capability to think outside of your box.

Man up and clearly state your position. Does God exist? Yes, no, maybe? (April 2, 2018 at 9:50 am)Neo-Scholastic Wrote: "Does God exist?" No. Now you can sleep easier at night.

I express comfortable certainty. Further, I'm not just an atheist, but a gnostic atheist and an antitheist on top of that, lol. This..in case you've plugged you ears and covered your eyes for the entire time you've been on these boards..isn;t even remotely the majority position here. There's a difference between my position on the god question and most of these folks. It makes little sense to use the same terms for people with such a different position than my own. .......don;t you think? An agnostic atheist is a person who..entirely unlike me, says.."maybe, but I don't believe in them." It's your own inability to see past your own beliefs that leads you to think that all of these people share my position. They might express comfortable certainty about your god..and why wouldn't they, it's rank bullshit...but they have a more expansive view of gods than you do..and your god being rank bullshit isn't enough for them to discount the set with certainty. Your god is tiny, and false. They allow for a larger god, even if they don;t believe in it.

Certainty is blessed. Doubt is just a tool to get there.
