RE: Ever feel like you don't belong in this world?

One foot in front of the other, is why.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Wherever my wife and daughters are, that's where I belong.

Not in a depressive manner, though I've been there and experienced that.
I mean that I feel as though I should have been born thousands of years in the future, because I can see how absolutely ignorant current society is and how corrective measures are not being taken. Not that the future will be any better, at this rate, yet a drop of optimism makes me want to think the future will be better than the present.
In a thousand years you might be able to pick the society you live in. Alan Dean Foster's Commonwealth Amalgamation is one possible such future.

I don't think that people will stop being petty and nasty, any more than they have in recorded history. But while I still live, I'll just do my thing and stay away from as many of those people as I can.

Sure, I feel like I belong in the world with interstellar spaceships exploring galaxies and not wasting my time (and ultimately life) trying to teach primitive people that their imaginary magical friend is not real.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Stuck on a boat full of assholes. For what it's worth, it's worse when you're crammed in with just a couple of assholes...for no other reason than sheer boredom and no variety-of-assholes.
(I'm being unfair, though, I bet their mommas love em - somebody has to)

Right. No matter how beautiful/handsome/wealthy/whatever nice attribute someone is, somebody, somewhere, is tired of their shit. Moms are special.
