RE: Portal, is it worth trying?

I remember back in college one guy was playing this awesome puzzle game on his computer. This was 1999. It was Myst related. Since then, I've never really tried puzzle games, and I kind of despise games that incorporate puzzles.

Portal is Myst, if Myst was on performance enhancing drugs and had a compelling urge to do cruel human testing at a remote facility.
-The game triggered my actual fear of heights, it's one of few games that..if you really dive in, engrosses you to the point where you feel palpable danger to your person. Thus the value of a first person perspective and really nice visuals and atmospherics. Thus all the awards and accolades.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Highly recomend
You shoot portals with the gun you saw; for example in one puzzle you see a cube that needs to be on a pressure button to open a door, you cannot reach said cube so you shoot the first part of the portal at the floor under the cube and the 2nd part of the portal at a wall near the button. The cube falls through one hole and out the other where you can pick it up and use it.. (the game explains the mechanics of how to do this in an opening tutorial)
The puzzles get increasingly more challenging and involve momentum physics and lateral thinking.

Some of the fancier approaches to solutions can be mildly vertigo inducing.

LOL, yeah..it's not a clicker..if that's what you're after. Don't get me wrong, you can have fun..but you won't beat it unless you're ready to deal with serous frustration, multiple attempts, and the faint smell of an electrical fire between your ears.

Well, I used to read Navy tech manuals, and I never cried once. So maybe...

I bought it for about that, I suppose. You'll get other games from buying it, btw. Unless they changed the license. Counterstike, Day of Defeat, and Insurgency (and others). Who knows, they might have restricted those to straight HL2 purchase.
(I got it from orange box with hl2, so I may be wrong)

There's a bundle on Steam, but I was underversed and uncertain. Maybe that's the option I want.
Quick peek, $20 for the bundle, Orange Box. HL1, HL2, Portal, Portal 2, Team Fortress...
