*shrug* I don't mind Christians being anywhere. It isn't Christians I object to so much as it is Christianity.

I prefer that they respond without gratuitous inclusions of scripture. I prefer they demonstrate how much tolerance and respect they would like for their WV by example toward mine. But it isn’t up to me anyway. I value the opportunity to build relationships across the isle without ulterior motives.

I just voted NO! The christian privilege here the last few days has left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Wanting to get to know someone and hoping to persuade them to your point of view are not mutually exclusive. I see nothing wrong with either 1) getting to know strangers so you can share with them the hope in your heart OR 2) sharing the Gospel with someone you already know.
It seems to me that being indifferent to the spiritual needs of strangers is uncaring particularly if you think you have something really important and helpful to share. If two people are traveling and both are thirsty it would be selfish for one not offer the other a swig for water. That's not "fixing" someone or having an ulterior motive. Nor must this impulse come from a feeling of personal superiority. Christians accept their own brokenness and are grateful for the Grace they know they do not deserve.

But you'd have to agree that there are atheists here that have no interest in being proselytized to and this place just might be the only point of escape for them to be free from all of the preachiness. I for one, don't much care for it because I personally don't like being preached to. I have a friend in rl who tries this and I tell her that if she valued our friendship, she would respect my right to not believe and would keep that stuff to herself when we are with each other.
Another example: If she wants to pray over her meal, that's her choice. But don't expect me to do that because I don't believe it's necessary.

I'm just curious, what special privilege have we gotten here the last few days?

One of my husband's (atheist) friends shared it with him. I had no problem with him doing that.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
