Does one need to go through traumatic experience to truly appreciate living?

RE: Does one need to go through traumatic experience to truly appreciate living?
On a less dramatic level I've experienced this a few times in my life to know it helps to go through shit to be more appreciative and happy when you're in the same position as someone who hasn't gone through shit to get to the same position.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I'd hate to think what mum and dad think of your life choices!

Yeah, that daughter of ours, she's just stupid and won't amount to anything!

So then she proceeds to by a v8 muscle car to rub the salt in a little more... hehehe

And parachuting ...and .....

Actually I bought a Honda Firestorm immediately afterwards. The accident was caused by a moron running a red light in a ute.

As someone who many years ago attempted suicide and has decided ever since to never do it again, to commit fully in the face of everything except for unbearable suffering, I would say yes. I've never wanted to keep on living so much since wanting to never live again. Since being at the bottom it's, overall, only ever been up. I love my life.

I think for it to matter you have to be capable of happiness in the first place.

I didn't have these inclinations before my kidneys failed, to be honest. Do you think it is necessary for one to go through very bad times in order to make the most out of the good?

I would say not necessary, but it can often wake us up.

It took me a lifetime to learn this one, and its corollary, patience. Though my patience is in short supply on some days.

Yeah.

I stopped giving a fuck before I was conceived.
