I just started reading (100 pages into a 1,000 page book) "The Way Of Kings" by Brandon Sanderson. He is the guy that has taken on the momentous task of completing the "Wheel Of Time" for the late Robert Jordan. "The Way Of Kings" is Brandon Sanderson's first book in what he promises will be a multiple book series. I'm so thrilled to be reading this that I had to share.
Brandon Sanderson is kind of a big deal in the world of fantasy fiction, if you aren't aware. Check out this review of "The Way Of Kings". Here is a line from the last paragraph - "Sanderson has built his work on the shoulders of the greatest writers of epic fantasy – Martin, Jordan, Eddings, Feist and Brooks – but with The Way of Kings has set his sights on surpassing even them."
Hmmmn, that sounds really good. Right now, I am in academic mode, reading Climbing Parnassus. It is a helluva good apology for Classics, for a modern audience.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
I'm reading through Battle of the Fang and some of John Perkin's stuff for fun. Fascinating man, Perkins. Incredibly unconvincing a lot of the time, though.
We burned in the name of God, no never again
The holy flames that craved the flesh, were lit unpure We screamed in the name of God, no never again We found the thought that plagued this world It was strong and blind |
