Yes, you can. It's a similitude. We prefer our tribe/country/group over others not due to Iblis and his dark forces like I believe, but rather, it would be due to natural instinct to survive.
Likewise, there would be nothing immoral of preferring our tribe/country/group/religion leaders if evolution favored us believing in Shamans who told us stories and favored us being gullible for unity, meaning, and cohesion.
In other words morality becomes paradoxical just like Lion's with empathy, morality becomes paradoxical in that our clinging to it over time was also the source of conflicts.
Yes, there is a morality that can be described that doesn't favor wars between tribes/countries/religions, but it's not the realistic one we inherited.
This would be the perspective of humans and morality in a scenario where we aren't created in image of God but forces of evolution that made us prefer following Shamans/con men who lead us to survival but also division and wars.

I personally believe I evolved from dragons, and that gay people evolved from sparkly, rainbow farting unicorns...

And suppose the instinct to kill children of new wife came about when marrying. Suppose in this scenario, the instinct to fight one another is gone, but the instinct to kill the children of a divorced or widow new wife, was so strong, it would be very hard to control rage levels of the male looking at the children and very hard to avoid the instinct to kill the children.
The morality framework we work with as Lion Setient species in this possible scenario, can it be called "morality" and can we be called compassionate or empathetic if aside from that, we act with mostly morals we are use to now as humans?
I will form an argument out of this soon so think about responses.

Totally stealing "wish thinking". Kind of the way "believe" gets transformed from "thinking there is reason to hold as true" into "having hope and faith that it is so" in the hands of Christians.

I don;t see why we needed to imagine that we evolved from lions to set this one up. We have many compelling contra-moral instincts as we are, more than a few of which involve killing.

You mean, if things were pretty much as they are, but we came from lions...would things be pretty much as they are? Gee.....I wonder.

Exactly. The impulse to rape arises out of natural drives and inclinations, yet we feel compelled to avoid and forbid it, likely due to factors which aren't entirely within our ability to rationally determine. Like altruistic acts and kinship selection, the relationship between nature and human nature is seldom as explicit and readily tangible as we would like. In addition is the question of whether there are moral facts independent of any possible evolutionary explanation, and whether those particular independent moral facts are relative to the particular species under consideration. Then it becomes a simple question of whether it is objectively wrong to kill the lion cubs as a lion, which, unlike the evolutionary line of thinking, is not directly predicated upon what is natural.
So, ultimately, it's an empirical question which depends on the particulars of the species involved, the relationship between sentience and morality, and the ultimate nature of morals.

You're indicating that the lions evolved but retain the same behavior patterns. If they evolved to produce a society similar to ours it is naive to think that their behavior would not also evolve and change.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.
