Ever Go on a News Blackout?

I too am a news junkie; the past couple of years have left me twitchy and exhausted.  I have subscriptions to the NY Times and Washington Post, my radio dial's set to NPR, and my TV is usually tuned to the local news, CNN, or PBSl.  

I just went on vacation to Ireland for a week (I live in the USA) with the intention of staying away from news entirely, and I did manage to do so for a couple of days.    Unfortunately G7 and the "summit" with KJU happened during that week, and TV coverage and conversations with Dubliners about current events were impossible to avoid.   

I wish I'd been able to go news blacked out for the whole week, because even a couple of days away made a positive difference.

I'm almost always in a news blackout. Most of the time, I don't know about anything until I read about it here on the forum or someone at work is talking about it.

News blackout every day for 6 to 8 hours. 

Actually every day in the evening for 1 hour, 0.5 of local, 0.5 of national (abc lately). Then HLN runs in the background while I'm doing other shit and has got to be a good story to get my attention. 

The infotainment/commentary/gotcha news makes me ill. (CNN/MSNBC/FOX) I don't need to be told how I should feel or the position I should take on news issues. Chris Cuomo should be castrated.

That's the norm. Olds are much more revealing.

I used to buy The Grauniad but only for AC Grayling's Philosophy column and Araucaria crosswords.

I haven't watched television for over 12 years but I switched one on once in Sydney and it displayed something looking a bit like a Gantt chart. So I switched it off again.

If you've ever run a Service Desk you'll know the difference between Interactions, Events, Incidents, Problems and Changes and also KPIs and Audits etc. A combination of these is what the news used to be. Now it seems to be gossip, rumours, pseudo-diagnosis, sensationalism and corporate sponsorship.

I find my trend analysis and root cause analysis (the interesting stuff) from other sources... friends in low places. I do my own risk analysis.
