There is a huge difference between a hypothetical to make a point, and what Fonda said.

Saying something like "how would Trump feel if Barron was ripped from his mother's arms and thrown in a cage?" is a hypothetical to make a comparison with a real situation and try and enact some empathy from Trump and his followers.

What Fonda said was a borderline threat against the son of the President. In fact I'd call it an actual threat but with no real seriousness behind it.

I'm flabbergasted that it's anything but condemned in its entirety.

Saying a kid should be locked in a cage with a pedophile isn't drawing a comparison. He said "should," dude. It's possible, and I know this because I'm doing it, to deplore the practice of separating kids from their family and still not suggest anyone's child, even the most loathsome dude, should be raped. If anyone can't manage the same, they've found themselves on the wrong side of being correct.

Something always strikes me as funny with these situations. The person who did the bad thing will apologize, acknowledging that it was a terrible thing to say, while other people continue to pound the ground, claiming it was a perfectly legitimate or forgivable thing to say because the poor Tweeter is just oh-so-frustrated and those big boy feelings are so hard to control. Hah, I missed this one.  I wouldn;t put him in the category of people equally willing as the rights fanatac, no.  Nor do I identify with people who tweet mean things at the pres. I don;t even tweet.  I do note, however... that we are approaching the sort of cliff where partisanship in the old sense of the word may become useful...and the suspicion that the people may one day need to do some physical thing about a tyrannical government is approaching a reality.  The right operates on a theory that..ultimately, they can do whatever they want because the left is demoralized, and even paralized into submissive inactivity.  That they could reshape the world in their image because the other guys are limp wristed pussies.  

I think people like pete say the sorts of things he says before we go over that cliff, but probably wouldn;t even begin to enact out the contents of his tweet.  Whereas there is at least some portion of the left that probably wouldn;t do anything remotely like the contents of that tweet but would stand up and take physical action against the sort of american gestapo that caused him to blurt out that shit in the first place.

It doesn't matter. Everyone knows what he was responding to. It doesn't change the ugly thing he said enough to even warrant mentioning it. It doesn't matter why he said it. We don't ever, in any kind of seriousness (and maybe even in a joke, though jokes get more leeway for me), say a kid should be raped. Sane people hate Trump, sane people do the right thing and stand up to bullies, they don't support bullies. President Shithole was raised by a bully and grew up to be a bully. He has made his life out of treating others like shit and ripping them off and conning people. Nobody sane should put  up with a western leader using the political tactics he is using. Yes one can, but again, what is pissing me off isn't anyone finding his comment distasteful, but that it is still nothing compared to the REPEATED pattern of abusive language by Trump and not just to one person, but multiple groups and his selling of fear is getting innocent people hurt.

Trump's victims are hurt far worse because he is in a position of political power and his victims are not just the adults of migrants, but their kids as well and his victims do not have billions to higher lawyers. The left might not need good guys, right now..how has that been going? This is what I'm trying to stress.  It might actually need shitty people willing to do and say shitty things when that serves the cause of either truth or the country.

I will again point out Trump himself has called for children to harmed .
