Anyway, the argument the Republicans made was that 2016 was an election year right? Well, 2018 is also an election year, so I'm sure they'll be consistent and wait until the new Senate is in session to approve Trump's nominee, right? /s RE: Justice Kennedy retiring!

Quote:Justice Anthony M. Kennedy announced Wednesday that he is retiring from the Supreme Court, a move that gives President Trump the chance to replace the court’s pivotal justice and dramatically shift the institution to the right, setting up a bitter partisan showdown on Kennedy’s successor. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/justic...spartandhp (June 27, 2018 at 3:36 pm)Tiberius Wrote:Then again, it's been a rough going for the dems lately. Quote:So, if they do decide to hold up a SCOTUS nominee it would make for good GOP campaign fodder to further paint the picture that the dems are obstructionists. Republicans control all three branches of government. Voting against something is not obstructionism. Even if it were, Democrats can't possibly obstruct unless they get Republican help. If you want to see obstructionism, how about the last (Republican) Senate not doing their job by refusing to consider Obama's court nominees? This is literally the job of the Senate, and they refused to even hold votes.
If the Dems vote they are wimps and should be replaced.

Last night's NY dem primary had a young socialist community organizer unseat a long time House dem. For the second part, voters have short term memories....and too bad for Hillary she didn't make that a campaign issue. I think if GOP candidates will campaign how that Dems opposed the tax cuts and how that Dems have said they will resist Trump and the GOP, ....so now, more than likely, they'll try to obstruct a SCOTUS nominee. The Dems have no message going into the midterms other than resist Trump.

For what it's worth, the Democrats are still talking about immigrants. I believe there were several court cases filed this week. Even the conservative leaning pollsters don't agree on that: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_c...ex_history If anything, they've stayed about the same. Your point about the unseating of the long time House dem only matters if you're certain that New York won't show out to vote for her. They probably will. The Dems have no message going into the midterms other than resist Trump. A GOP candidate will campaign based on the fact that Democrats oppose a GOP president and the GOP? Wow, what an amazingly original strategy. Newsflash, that happens every election, for both parties. Democrats want a Democrat led government. Republicans want a Republican led government. How exactly, do you think Democrats can obstruct a SCOTUS nominee? As far as I'm aware, they don't have enough votes to do anything. If the SCOTUS appointment gets blocked, it will be because Republican(s) vote Nay. NO, not Obama, but the voters whom TWICE put him in office to make that decision. Watch as these fuckers suddenly become hypocrites and claim we are the "obstructionists". The days of polite are gone. They were dicks to Obama, so we are going to be dicks right back.
