How Do I Send an SMS message From UK mobile to a US one

Hi,

Having some trouble. I have tried looking this up but I can only seem to find the reverse (US to UK). I can't seem to add the correct number format into my contacts. I know the country code for the United States is 1. Has anyone tried this before? Any special information do I need from the person sending me their number?

I use Nexmo, which among other things allows me to send my messages from a web interface on my homepage.

I much prefer typing SMS messages in my computer than trying to use my phone's little keyboard.

I can also automate multiple message sends, keep track of numbers in my site's database, etc.

That being said, the per-message charge is fairly high-- multiple cents per message, I believe.
