Why are our mini-computers called smartphones?

I can't talk shit tho.  My wife handed me an iphone last week..first phone I've had since I was a teen.  She didn't ask, just handed it to me.  Here's your phone, this is your number, call me.

I hate texting.  My wife was texting with my son and I'm like "Why don't you just fucking CALL HIM?!"

I draw a blank on that as well. People on both ends are using a device capable of voice communication and they're using a far less-efficient way to communicate instead. I don't get it.

They are called smart phones because they know exactly when to invade your privacy and distribute your data and personal information.

Because the ability to call is probably the only function that, if it were missing, would cause you not to carry that device around any more.

Silly me, I run with the ringer permanently off so as not to be bothered by calls. The last thing I use my phone for is, well, as a phone.

Yeah, you'd think so, but once you get used to texting it's a LOT easier.

It's also something where you don't have to respond right away, like email or an instant message. Also good if you're multitasking and there's no expectation of a delay-less conversation.

However, if nuance is needed, voice or video is way better IMO.

Boss Lady isn't allowed to use her cell at work. I have mine on when I can, but when I'm under the tent I don't use it. (Stupid hospital rules.) We leave messages for each other  by text.

The work environment is slowly changing to accommodate the need for the personal phone.
