teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). I mean 6% offend. And a depressingly large portion of the rest cover it up because they think that just sweeping it under the rug until it hits critical mass is better than the consequences of just letting the scandal run its course naturally.

Waiting? For 40 years?! I mean talk about monk's patience. But that's actually called being complicit. And also all that time Catholic Church is selling people the idea "Let us deal with this problem our self." and yet if this is the way they "deal" with that problem (and too many cases show they do) then let the police deal with it.
