Christians: What line are you unwilling to cross for God?

The only answer I ever got to this kind of question is "God wouldn't tell me to do that kind of thing". Which is a dodge, but does tell me that they'd be resistant to doing something horrible if they believed their god was talking to them.

Unfortunately some people do make the news when they do something bad, and give the excuse that their god told them to. Parents taking their kid to a priest to get a demon exorcised, which really means tying them down and torturing them into compliance. Or christians in Africa killing their kids because they think they're witches.

Pitching genocide to the kids. Just focus on Noah getting his family and some animals on the ark. Gloss over all the other people and animals that died, because they're somehow all evil. even the babies. God doesn't know how to do cultural reform. Just follow the rules, or you all die. Jesus throwing people out of the temple is a good example in the new testament. It's portrayed as a noble deed, but is guaranteed to not have any lasting effect. Once he's gone, they'd go right back to doing the same thing. He needed to try to get the laws changed, or do something more productive than assault a few people and destroying furniture.

I have a theory about that. The magic book is frankly brim full of gory violence, rape, incest, slavery, depravity and weirdness all sanctioned by god. Yet somehow, christians are entirely happy to have there children read it from an early age. Why is that?

I think that when little Suzy or Johnie ask "Mommy, what is rape?" or Mommy, why did god want a pile of foreskins?" Mommy/Daddy simply kicks to touch exactly as their own parents did with them. They are simply too uncomfortable with what is in the vile tome.

As a corollary, this is also why most christians avoid even reading the whole risible snuff fiction. They don't want to have there hippy, white, caucasian jesus with the sad puppy dog eyes delusion in any way shaken by what the book really says.

Oh they will claim, that's all OT stuff. It doesn't count because of the NEW COVENANT with jesus. Well, no. jesus directly says your talking bollocks in the NT. And besides, the ten commandments are from the OT, so now they are rejecting those as well.

Oh but jesus brought the ten commandments into the NT, they will claim. Except he never did. He did in fact endorse five. Which five did he include, which five did he leave out. One might thing they would know if they read the compendium of stupid.

Is there a line you're not willing to cross for god?

Let's say, like Abraham, God came down and asked you to sacrifice your child?  Would you do that for him?  Or would you draw the line and say "no"

What lines are there?  I mean it's easy to say that "Oh god wouldn't ask me to do that!"  (He asked Abraham to do it, so I don't see why not).  Would you do whatever God asked you to? 

I'm sure the most common answer will be "Well, God wouldn't ask me to do something so terrible! So I'd know it wasn't god."  To which I have to ask why Abraham did not think the same thing, and what therefore makes him credible in the least?

This question gets asked a lot here lol. 😉

No, I would not kill my kid. If God asked me to do that, I would at that moment come to the realization that the God I believe in doesn't exist, because something like this would be contrary to His nature. God wouldn't be who I thought He was. It would be extremely confusing, especially to try to wrap my head around how the creator of the universe could be evil, since natural law (which comes from God) demonstrates that killing the innocent is wrong.

I could go on about how this wouldn't make any sense and wouldn't line up with... well, the world. But the short answer is, no, I would not do it.

As for Abraham, did God's voice actually sound from the skies and order Abraham to kill his son? Or was that story written allegorically, to convey some sort of message for the people of the time? When it comes to OT stories, I take the latter approach.
