Cats Will Not Take This Lying Down

Quote:Why a village in New Zealand is trying to ban all cats

Quote:After their pet dies, cat lovers in the community will then not be allowed to get any more.
"So your cat can live out its natural life at Omaui happily doing what it's doing. But then when it dies, you wouldn't be able to replace it," bio-security operations manager Ali Meade explained.
Officials say the measure is justified because cameras have shown roaming cats preying on birds, insects and reptiles in the area.

I'd prefer cats to birds, insects and reptiles but maybe that's just me.

Cats are voracious predators. I can understand where they're coming from. Even though supporting something like that on the internet is bound to not go well. The cat is the mascot of the internet, after all.

I never let my cats out. They don't last as long if you do.

Whatever.

Replace your cat with a hog.

I let my cats out. They are 16, 14 and 8.
I had a cat who lived to be 17, he also went outside. He died of vaccine-induced cancer.

Congrats on getting them back alive every day. They're outliers.

Our cats when we lived out in the country where all outdoors.   We had a grey one, which disappeared (during small game season).   But the last one lived to about 17 yrs.   Towards the end, he liked to sun himself out in the street (they moved to town at this point) and refused to move anymore for cars.   Still died of old age.   They where all de-clawed in the front, and for the most part we didn't have any issues letting them out.

My current cat is an indoor one though.   Living in town near a busy street, with fast traffic; it just isn't a good idea to let him out. As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side.
