God in schools

RE: God in schools
URGH, I fucking hope not.

We had to sing hymns everyday in my Primary School (For non uk People, Age 4 - 11) as well as saying the lords prayer afterwards, and a visit from the local Vicar on a Friday to tell us a story of some description. It sucked big time and had no ramification on the work we did/what we learned [Other than religion is a pain in the ass, literally as we'd have to sit on a hard wooden floor during all this] in terms of education.

The worst part was I was an Atheist, and would tell these people I didn't believe in God, yet I was made to do it. But a friend of mine was a Jehovah's Witness, and was free to be excused during the assembly.....which was bullshit.

I'm not sure if schools/high schools in the UK do this anymore (my high school didn't, thank fuck) or what the deal is in other countries but if anything it just cuts time out of the day to do all this shit. Why waste an hour singing about something fictional, then praying when you're at school to learn stuff? It's backwards.

Well, I just came back from Mt. Olympus, and Zeus told me he wants nothing to to with U.S. schools anymore. It's just the principal of it, he says.

Quote:She is Catholic.

That explains much.  Anyone who remains a catholick now after watching their legions of pervert priests molest children world-wide for centuries does not need a god.  She needs a good, swift, kick in the ass.

And I always want to ask them - Why?? Why do kids need a fear of god in order to be moral and good? Isn't this a parent's job? Why is morality tied to their Christian god? And if this is their plan, then why do believers still do bad things?

I am just venting. I am tired of arguing with people, so I won't say anything. But if god enters my child's school, I would consider it a true downfall of modern society, not an advancement.

Jesus/Allah/Yahweh are all powerful but cant get into certain public buildings? That is one fucked up definition of "all powerful".

Tell that to his fans who oppress Muslims or have artists arrested for depicting him with headphones on.

Buddha didn't exist anymore than Jesus. A man or group of men started that movement sure, otherwise Buddhism would not exist. But it is not a cure for violence anymore than belief in Jesus or Allah stop people from being cruel to other humans.

This is simply a romantic view of the east by those whom live in the west. Asian Buddhist majority countries have had their conflicts and have oppressed each other too.

Religions are clubs, not cures. Our species behaviors are in our evolution, not in the clubs we claim to belong to. Asian countries have hospitals and prisons too. Some are more open than others too.

Yeah, I had this argument with a guy here in NZ.

Idiot couldn’t (or wouldn’t) understand the concept of “you have home, church, and religious schools, if you want to send your kids to them, to teach your kids about your religion. Why should you be allowed to inflict your religion on other peoples’ kids?”
