No. A tree is not a metaphor in here also; this is the original verse: Quote:Sura 24, The Quran: When you "kindle" something using a "tree"; then you used the "tree" as a source of fuel. Ancient people knew that, and obviously there was many ancient sources for fire including wood from trees or oil from trees (like the one mentioned in this verse) and also "coal"; also "stone", even "people". “And those who believed and did righteous deeds will be admitted to gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein by permission of their Lord; and their greeting therein will be, "Peace!" Have you not considered how Allah presents an example, [making] a good word like a good tree, whose root is firmly fixed and its branches [high] in the sky? It produces its fruit all the time, by permission of its Lord. And Allah presents examples for the people that perhaps they will be reminded. And the example of a bad word is like a bad tree, uprooted from the surface of the earth, not having any stability.” (14:24-26)
Okay. Very nice hiding that verse in English between the lines.
But the word "like" is used to say "explicitly" that this is an example given with a tree. How does that relate to saying that "a tree" is not actually a "tree"? |
