Surprised to read that they've only won 7 games in the last 4 seasons.
Who knows, maybe she'll lead them to the Super Bowl.

I heard about that. Has nothing to do with her being female. No fan of the party she supported. I can say that there are lots of fans of the sport that have never played a down that understand the game better than many who have played. Joe Theisman for example, was a great quarterback but after he left he became a very HORRIBLE sports announcer.

The ability to see patterns in anything, just like computer programming is how football works. I can say that if she can see those patterns and coach based on that and do well, I don't think it should matter if she never played a down. But outside that, no fan of the party she supported.

And let me add. I have never played a down myself. But just yesterday, having watched football for over 40 years, in the Ohio game yesterday, I could not see how they fell for the fake punt considering how the offensive line lined up. It should have been obvious.

Nonetheless, coaching is a skill which takes practice, as well as a thorough background in other areas not related to the sport, specifically coaching as a subject in and of itself.  I don't know what qualifications she brings to the job, but if this is true, and she is a good prospect, it will require more than just football knowledge.

(I've spent endless hours listening to my two sisters, lifelong gymnastics coaches, talk about the subject.  Believe me, I know. )

How many presidents have been military vets compared to the amount of presidents who end up president without combat experience?

I seriously have seen many, even men, in my lifetime of watching the game, whom have never played a down, who could coach better than those whom have played the game.

It isn't an either or proposition to me. It amounts to she should not get the job as a publicity stunt, no. But if she gets the job and produces wins, that is what every team owner wants, and fan wants.

I don't find your parallel to be very parallel. As to whether those you have watched could coach better than those who have played, that is a non sequitur, in addition to the fact that most of those who played are also lacking in some of the relevant background knowledge and experience previously noted.

Well, I can't stand football (too many breaks and commercials and not enough action) but I admire Mrs. Rice despite her politics. So if she can lead a team to win, I'm all for it.

The only thing about her that bothers me if she were to get a coaching job, and be successful is how much the NFL already ties itself to our military financially. I am sick of all the camouflage crap on the sidelines. It isn't that we should not value our military, we should. But corporate America has learned to market cliches instead of marketing pluralism.

What annoys the fuck out of me isn't the prospect of a woman coaching football, but bullshit language "neutral zone infraction"......... Back when I was growing up, when either the offence or defense crossed the imaginary line before the start of the play they simply called it "off sides".

The other thing they did for a long time as reffs, would say, "False start PRIOR to the snap" as if you could have a false start after the legal start of a play.

Rice will be picked or not, she will be good or not.
