Is atheism a belief?
RE: Is atheism a belief?

Academic, really, since atheists do "believe things" in the existential sense.  Tons of things.

I don't think to believe in God is like believing in loyalty.

To believe in God is likely to mean to worship God, and to worship God means to do his will, so it's all defined by the fruits a person carries that makes him believe in God or not.

Believing in God is not something you do in your head, like thinking for example. It's about being who you are.

That would make your earlier question a bit of a head scratcher then, wouldn't it?

Ish, it's possible to believe in a god without worshiping a god.

For you, maybe? You won't have to look far for a believer that rankles at the suggestion that their religious beliefs are anything -other- than a thoroughly intellectual enterprise. Same goes for atheists...but I feel you there. I find myself explaining to people that, ultimately, an atheist is just what I am. I had occassion to explain as much in this thread before you joined. I can see how the same could be true for a believer.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

What does worshipping a god means when gods don't exist?

Different things to different believers, clearly.

I could act like an asshole right now, but I won't.

See you around.

I have a feeling that the statement above is pretty much always true, lol.

You see, mentally I can't cope with the idea of atheism. It does not make sense to me.

But people are people.

That's a strange thing to be unable to cope with, don't you think?

Some people like spinach flavored icecream, does that keep you up at night? Is the idea that spinach flavored icecream is the best icecream particularly disconcerting?

It's not like that's the same.

But since I hold the idea of a creator I don't have the idea there are no gods.

Well, you'd have to be more specific as to how it's different.  You likely don't believe that spinach flavored icecream is the best icecream either.

You believe in some god, well...fine I guess? Other people don't. In what way is that disconcerting?
