The War on Christmas

I actually started an introduction thread and had it almost typed when I accidentally deleted it! I plan on redoing it later today.

I am a poet, I've actually hit the wrong button writing one, then have to write it again, and it is damned impossible to repeat the same words.

That's because there is no "war on Christmas." It's obviously a bunch of bullshit, and no sane Christian would bring it up here by creating a thread.

There is a war on xmas, and it is being fought on an individual level by individuals who don't celebrate xmas.  I have pretty much been forced to fight the war on xmas every year for my entire life. Why? Because I don't celebrate xmas and people get pushy about this. People also misunderstand and think that we are fighting for an 'inclusiveness' that we aren't fighting for. We basically just want to be left alone. The skirmishes basically go something like this:

Are you ready for xmas?
No, I don't celebrate xmas.
Why don't you celebrate xmas?  (This is the point at which it becomes sort of a battle. Why do I have to explain why I don't celebrate xmas?)
I am not xian.
You don't have to be xian to celebrate xmas. (Now they are getting pushy)
I'm Jewish. We don't believe in celebrating xmas.
I know some Jewish people who celebrate xmas. (pushy)
Well I don't, and I clearly told you that I don't, and I clearly told you that it would be a violation of my beliefs to celebrate xmas.
Well you don't have to get nasty.

It has been obvious that I don't want to have this discussion since I told you that I don't celebrate xmas. No one who doesn't celebrate xmas wants to have this discussion with you.

I have at least one discussion go like this every single fucking year. Say happy holdidays to me, and I don't mind. Say Merry xmas to me, and I don't mind, although I will not return that greeting. I don't care about inclusiveness.  I just don't want to be forced into the above discussion every year by clueless morons who seem to think that the holiday is some sort of cultural event that everyone has to participate in. And I also think that the morons who believe that it is some sort of cultural thing that everyone has to participate in are frequently not even xians themselves. They are just pushy morons who think that everyone has to do what they do.

Yeah, that's not really a war on Christmas, it's more of a personal grudge about Christmas.

It seems that almost every year, an atheist is starting a thread about a "war on Christmas", never any actual Christians.

I guess we're lucky in that regard. Outside of this forum, Hannity has taken up O'Reilley's mantle in his reportage on the 'War on Christmas'. We make threads about it because it is funny that anything Hannity doesn't like during the holiday season is part of the War on Christmas. Also, I get this 'you better say Merry Christmas!' crap here in SC every year.
