Purity Ball

RE: Purity Ball
Virgin meat markets have a long and storied history.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Bolded mine.  Again, same to you, buddy.

Cool. Anything else about that?

If not, back to figuring out why an atheist would be concerned about the sexual behavior of Christian teenage girls.  Or any demographic of teenage girls as far as that goes.  Seems a bit odd and disturbing.

More like it's daddy dearest that's interested in the sexual behaviour of christian teenage girls, when it comes to purity balls...huh?

Atheists, for our part...are commonly perplexed at the weird and creepy shit that christers get up to.

A girl saying she wants to be celibate until marriage isn't an unacceptable stance.  It may be different that what you believe, but nothing wrong with it either.  Her choice.

Creepy is waking up and googling about the sexual habits of Christian teenage girls and then telling people about it and asking for opinions is just plain disturbing.  If you feel it's "normal" then maybe you can shed some light on it.

Discuss away. No disagreement there.  Just wondering why atheists are concerned about the sexual behavior of Christian teenage girls.  If you don't feel the two ideas are related, then fair enough.  Do you understand?

So what is weird about a girl wanting to be celibate. Given, it may not be the norm these days, but does that make it wrong?  What is wrong with their dad making a vow to protect their daughter?  Is it something to be offended by?  If so, why?  I'm sure having a ball isn't necessary, but I can also understand why it would be useful since it adds an extra value to that vow, because it is tied to a formal event.  Kinda like a dad declaring his son a "man" so he declares it during a ritual with his tribe.  It gives it a feeling of being made official.

Creepy is going out of your way to research the sexual choices of teenage girls in a demographic that you don't belong to unless you have some academic reason to do so.  If I ever wake up in the morning and decide to research the sexual behavior or atheist or Muslim girls just because, you have my permission to shoot me without consequence.

I don't think we need your permission for that.

This. Why does dad get to become the one who decides his daughter's sexual life? That's just weird and gross.

And why don't boys have to go through the same thing?

Why are women objectified and are "valued" based on their "purity?"

And like I said before, is this REALLY her choice? Would her relationship with her family not be in jeopardy if she decided not to do this? What about her relationship with her peers?

Indoctrination and shaming are powerful tools.
