Hmmm, I'll give it my best shot...
I grew up in and around the greater Chicago area in the 80s. At that time people were just going nuts for anything British. I remember half the population getting up at almost the middle of the night to watch the royal wedding.
The biggest thing for me was the "second" British invasion for music. I got flooded with all your new wave and synth pop, which to be honest, for the most part I liked more than our American rock at the time.
I grew up with music magazine imports from England, and interviews with British pop stars on MTV, so some words or spellings that are decidedly British were just part of my grammar. Like for example, I don't see a difference between color and colour. Or, theater and theatre. They're both just "normal" to me.
That said, I see Britain (and Canada for that matter) as relatives. We don't always agree or get along, but we're family and we stand for the same things, and share a lot in common. Those are things I think about more rather than these anomalies that are occurring right now.

Lets reciprocate. The edges of the US seem to be cultured and advanced but someone plopped a country from the third world in the middle. So the US is a mass of contradictions.

The dentistry thing was probably true about 50 years ago, not now. What we don't do is obsess about the cosmetic aspect, teeth need to be healthy, not too worried if they are not perfectly straight and a gleaming unnatural white colour

Indeed if you go by dental health rather than how it looks British people have better teeth than americans.

Had an FNG who volunteer for the Navy despite being a British citizen. He lasted two days. Other than that I have no opinion on the issue at hand.

If I'm painting the British with one broad stroke, the one thing that really sticks out to me is a lack of innovation. Americans are less afraid to buck tradition and question the status quo. The British are more reserved and therefore less inclined to believe that just because something hasn't been done doesn't mean that it can't be done.
Americans are all, "Fuck yeah! Let's do this!" British people are more like, "Hold on now. That's not how we do things around here."
This is totally unfair to the sourpuss, stick-in-the-mud Americans or the trailblazing Brits, but that's how I see the overall trends.
