The "something" is that in the uk, christians feel that other religions, usually muslim, get preferential treatment/more respect.
They ignore the possibility that atheists have got it right.
That's not actually the case, however it is definitely the perception. Whilst a christian can be legally married in a church of his choice, a Muslim must still have a state marriage ceremony after the religious one is carried out or it isn't legal in the UK. So there are still many inconsistencies that can (and are) be construed as disrespectful / discriminatory.
Btw Allah means God in Arabic - there's no difference. In fact, Islam teaches that Christianity & Islam are on the same path to God. Still they all seem to fight...but there you go...
As far as the ads go - I'm for it...just wish the wishy washy 'there's probably' was more 'There is no'...the churches, synagogues, mosques and all the associated clerics have no issues making huge claims as to their respective gods, prophets & messiahs...

GSARider, I believe we atheists do better to acknowledge the almost zero possibility of god's existence than claiming zero possibility. It gives us the advantage over faith-heads who, it seems to me, must adopt the position of 100% certain of god's existence, which is arrogant.

I think that's a great idea! It is time we start letting people know that it is okay to be atheist

So has anyone seen the response (also on the side of buses) to the advertising campaign?
Something like, "There definitely is a God. So join the Christian Party and enjoy your life" ... is it just me or have they missed the essence of the atheist bus advertising campaign?

On my way to the airport I saw the Dutch billboard.

It says: There is probably no god, dare to think for yourselves and enjoy your life.
Slightly different motto than the UK one but a good one just the same.

The Advertising Standards Authority figures just published show that The atheist bus advert came 6th on the list of most complained about adverts in 2009. The Christian ad that responded to it came TOP of the list ( and became the 3rd highest complained about ad EVER! ).
Progress!

I think it's terrific! Whenever I go out I'm bombarded with T-shirts, bumper stickers and billboards promoting some religion (mostly Christianity, of course). It's nice to tweak these self righteous twits by throwing it in their face that not everybody believes the bullshit you believe. I also think there's a good chance that kids might at least question their parent's religious beliefs. When I was a kid there was nothing to even suggest that the existence of "God" was not a fact. I'm sure the vast majority of people would agree that there should be a free exchange of ideas. But many of these same people would be horrified to see something on a billboard questioning their religious beliefs. And I'll bet that many of these people would tear down that billboard if given half a chance.

Yeah it was something like 1200 complaints against God is real as opposed to 400 complaints against God is probably not real. Success in my book... It's good to question - to wake people up from their complacency, challenge their ill considered ideas.
