I only kinda half watched it. Where was tge Death Star?
The wreckage. As one commentator said "Gee, we're lucky the most recognizable part of the Death Star(s) survived that well."
Meh, I'll see it, I watch the fans foam at the mouth, and I won't have to pay for that part of the fun.

1. The emperor has returned before in the comics by using cloned bodies and transferring his conciseness to them
2. And it's only the ruins of a death star not an operational version " wreckage from one of the first two Death Stars appears to play some role in the upcoming The Rise of Skywalker.[13]"

I heard the Emperor's laugh and thought "not again".
Didn't pay attention to the wreckage.
Wondered why, 40 years later, the First Order us jyst using variants of Imperial fighters. First a TIE fighter and now a TIE interceptor?
And suddenley Rey MIGHT be a Skywalker after all? Or does the title refer to Luke ascending into the Force?

At work.
Well... other than the thrusters (Where ever they were) which contain and direct enough energy to actually MOVE the beasty.
The honking big cannon barrel would be stressed to hold and direct enough energy to destroy an entire planet in one hit.
Plus, in Rouge One, we see the cannon being installed as a single prefabbed peice. What goes in might just get blown out.
So that bit makes sense to be built... well... really well built.

Nah, force fields, no material objects would withstand that beam.
Yeah, the dish could be detached by an internal explosion.

Curious as to why that is. Due to the enormous stress on it during firing

If you watch the firing scenes you see that the beam doesn't touch the interior of the ship. That would be suicidal.

And I'm saying that the beams are contained in force fields, so they don't interact with the ship's structure at all. A beam meant to destroy a planet wouldn't notice a ship of any size as it goes poof.
