What's cooking, good-looking?
#11
RE: What's cooking, good-looking?
I like to cook but rarely have the time for meal prep. Crock pot meals are easiest as the can just be set and forget. I'm also really not a recipe person. MY wife can bake, and loves to. It's more science and measurement than cooking to me. Consequentially, I can't even bake betty crocker. I cook with my nose and when they ask for the recipe, I usually have to go back through and show them because I don't measure at all. I'll post some meals from this week on here. Good idea for a thread.

I see recipes as a starting point, but I rarely follow one, except when baking. Pinch of this, dash of that. Recipes are more of a guideline as to how someone else might prepare the dish. Consequently, the same dish never comes out exactly the same, and that's all right, just so long as it's good, and you can make some damn fine food in a Crockpot or Instant Pot.

Though I have to say, I've practically ditched the former for the latter - I'm into one pot cooking and you can't brown meat in a crock pot, and a crock pot can't make scratch made stew in 30 minutes cook time.

Usually, I'll follow a recipe EXACTLY the first time I try cooking it. After that, I start to add my own twist and just sort of "feel" how much of what I'm supposed to add. That's usually how I end up with really tasty dishes that I go back to time and time again.

My dead granny is a better man than you, Iggy!

On topic, I used to be attrocious in the kitchen. I could burn water.

But now I love cooking but don't do it enough.
