In a sane world, effective gun regulation isn't a right or left issue. This is not a sane world, gun regs are a wedge.

The whole game is pretty clever.  You find or create some issue that can yield predictable election outcomes. You then sell access and influence to those predictable outcomes, the one thing no politician can pass up.  So long as people on either side of the wedge are pointing and firing at someone else...the right side thinks it's soshulizms, the left side thinks it's gun makin profitz...you get to keep the pieces in play without interference from either.

The right will respond with increasingly silly shit, the left will up the ante with their own stupid shit, rinse and repeat. The cumulative effect of all this stupid shit only strengthens the value of the wedge.

"Silly shit"? Oh no, and not just on firearms, and not just with America. Our species in general really really hates social norms getting upset. Our species has a horrible tendency to fear change when that majority, of any given society gets challenged. We have a horrible tendency to allow ourselves to be lead by fear. 

It isn't just guns, and it isn't just America, and it isn't just this century. Conservatism, is worldwide to greater or lesser degrees. It is easier to gain support in any given society in human history, by selling division and fear. It is much harder, although it can and does happen, to create progress by challenging social norms.

The majority of americans are in favor of stricter regulations...the majority of NRA members....are in favor of stricter regulation. The right and the left are getting played, together, on this one. There's a third man on the board, and that player is letting the other two gut each other because it's in their best interests that they do so.

Nobody ever defines what that stricter regulation is - or who voted for it....

It sounds to me like the term " family values" - it SOUNDS good - but in truth is undefined and ultimately meaningless.

That is the part that kills me. Even most firearm owners are on the right side of history. But just like gerrymandering, get a good shell game going, you can protect special interests. 

All you need to do to protect profits, is to divide classes, and races and zip codes.

I simply made an open statement allowing each of you according to your own character fill in the blank so to speak meaning to fill in the narrative for yourself.
