[Serious] What do you want out of life?
#21
RE: What do you want out of life?
I have what I want in life. Everything else would be the cherry on top. Now it is just to maintain it. I -don't- want to lose my husband or child. I know I will lose my mom and dog one day but I don't want to.

All I've ever wanted was a family and to have enough money to not worry if I can pay my bills. I don't need to be rich, I have no desire to travel the world (I would if offered but it isn't a bucket list nor something I long for), I don't want to be famous, and I don't think a huge house would be fun. I would like a three bedroom house don't get me wrong and I've always wanted a room I could display all my books. It doesn't have to be a library just don't like seeing them in boxes due to lack of space for more shelves. My in laws have a ranch with a house on top of a hill which is where I got married. I would like to retire there one day but I hope it is in the far future because I don't want to lose my in laws either. I will be keeping my truck for the rest of its life because it is exactly what I want and I've worked hard to purchase and pay it off. I want my daughter to grow up happy and to lead a good life but I don't actually want her to grow up lol. Can't I just keep her forever?

Also if your signature makes my scrolling mess up "you're tacky and I hate you."

And to take someone with me when I go.

To take someone with you when you go as in having a traveling companion, or as in bringing about someone's death?

No, it does not.

Yes.

Thanks for your reply!

edit: It's great to hear that some people feel very content with what they already have. For those people, do you have anything else you strive for or do you lack motivation to do things that are outside of those things you already have obtained?

For the people who say they don't know... what DON'T you want?
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.

That's why you need to bring in an alternating procession of babies and puppies.  If you ever end up not having poop on either your hands or your floor on any given day, you're doing it wrong.

I want to love and be loved. I want to think deeply and explore the world. i want to be able, when I am dying, to think back and say that I have *lived*.

Overall, I have been very fortunate. I have had a lot of love in my life. I have been able to contribute to the advance of human knowledge and to think about things most people could never imagine. If I die tomorrow, I would have no regrets: it has been a wild ride. That realization has given me the confidence to explore more and more as I grow older, to experience what life has to offer.

I want to be content. Most days I get it.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

I know what I did want. I still want it but I know I won't get it so I have given up on the idea. I want a house in the highlands of Scotland where I can be part of a community and to do my research all day long.

I already have more than I could have hoped for:
A smart and honest wife who didn't want children,
A comfortable but affordable home with all of my favorite things in it,
A financially secure retirement after a productive career,
And time to read, think, and write.

Now I want to gradually cut our carbon footprint as low as possible.

I also still want to figure out some way to be useful again while pursuing my own interests.  That may not be possible.

What I don't want: a painful, prolonged death by cancer. My mother died of cancer that way, and it was awful.

I want to be reasonably healthy, financially stable and have plenty of time for leisurely activities. I want the same for my family and friends, so I don't have to worry about them, either.
