I like the term Twat.  It's got all of the above and more.  The only problem is that Twat can be applied to many types, not just christards.

Need to ponder some more.

See, I didn't have this problem before the world went soddin' PC!!

It's not offensive or insulting enough? Is that what you're looking for?

Correct - hit the nail on the head.

Because words that are the most offensive or insulting really spur rational discussion? Because they can de-escalate the emotionalism from an argument so that people actually listen to each other? No because they sate some juvenile need because your EQ is somewhere stuck near your IQ and equitable to that of a butt-hurt 4 year old (pun intended). I wonder why Christians generally assume most atheists are reactionary and puerile or conflate atheists with anti-theists regularly?

While the point is appreciated, tack, the fact is that opposite sides will naturally demonize each other, so theists attributing it to something uniquely atheist is just not good thinking on their part. Additionally, their thinking that is a part of their own process of demonizing and demeaning atheists.

It doesn’t matter to who? Who are you to decide who it should or shouldn’t matter to?

Quote:dritch said, and I paraphrase, that it seemed to him that it was acceptable to insult a christard on this forum but not acceptable to use the N word and, if he (dritch) referred to anyone using the N word, they would feel insulted.  Hope that I have represented that accurately.  If not, my sincere apologies.

So, if someone feels that “Christ***d” is a slur and should be banned, then they can start a thread in the Questions For Staff section and we can discuss it. I don’t see how defending the use of a different slur solves the problem of people being hurt by the former one.

Quote:Boru the stated that this wasn't the case and said that he wouldn't feel insulted if anyone referred to him (Boru) as the N word.

That’s fine for Boru. Boru isn’t black I don’t imagine he would be offended, however he is not the only member of this forum, is he?

Quote:dritch then said that this was because Boru wasn't black.

Boru then posted and signed it N-word Boru.

I then referred to Boru as N-Word Boru.  Not to insult but to support.

I then posted and signed it Lemon Shirt Lifter Curry in support of Boru.

Yes, you did, and to be clear, it won’t be tolerated going forward. Simple as that.

1.  We are all too bloody PC to the point where effective communication is impossible these days because we all fear being referred to as a racist or an X-ist.

You can’t effectively communicate without using racial slurs? Interesting. What, exactly, are you tying to communicate that requires the use of words like the n-word?

That’s nice. However, if you wish to remain a member of this forum, you will need to abide by the rules. It’s that simple. I don’t really care if you like it or not. 😏

Quote:2.  It isn't the terms we use that's important, it's the intent.  Some people are too stupid to recognise the difference or even that there is a difference.  Well, I have no time for stupid people.

Again, who are you to decide that? Who are you to decide for a black person that the hurt they feel from seeing the n-word is unjustified?  How did you acquire an authority over other people’s feelings? You don’t get to decide what hurts people, especially when you’re not the intended target of those types of words (as far as I know).

Quote:3.  People are all too quick off the mark to being offended on behalf of others.  To those I would say "fuck you."   And, if you are offended by that remark, as the great Stephen Fry once said, "so fucking what."

It’s not about being offended on behalf of others. It’s about basic, human empathy. Some people have it, and some people have...a lot less of it. *shrugs*

but why do opposite sides demonize each other? It's one of the most titular reasons I hate politics, no one can run a race without putting down the opponent. There is a distinct line between evolutionary parsing of friend/foe netting an advantage with some caution and suspicion and the ultimate attribution of our illusions us/them to continuously use a viscous feedback loop that (I feel is at the root of evil)perpetuates hatred and unrealistic division.

That being said I also feel the deep outgroup homogeneity effect of differing factions is such a prevalent and blatant observational bias, that I see here and IRL constantly, I don't know how people can't see the blindspot. Anyways, sorry to interrupt the rant and thread, please continue

Lady

You asked for an explanation.  I gave you an explanation.  I even gave you an honest explanation.  You don't like it.  Tough shit Jack.  That's the way it is.

It isn't what's said, it's the intent behind the words.  I'm standing by that.

Empathy?  Don't have any.  Wasn't born with any.  I have aspergers.  I understand the word empathy but not the feeling that goes with it.  I was going to say that I suffer from aspergers but, actually, I quite enjoy it.  All this empathy and other nonsense that you people feel just causes you grief.  Can do without it.  Stops you seeing the world how it really is.  How do any of you people ever make a logical decision with all that touchy feely nonsense going on in your heads?

I did like TTA.  I also like other Atheist forums.  Could/can tell it like it is.  Not this place.  Far too PC for me.  Have to watch what I say lest I get banned.  Fuck that for a game of soldiers.  Will ban myself.  I wouldn't like to offend, would I?  Well, actually, yes, because people have the right to be offended or not to be, as the case maybe.  In the end, they can CHOOSE to be offended or they can CHOOSE not to be.   I think people get offended far too easily these days.  I think that they jump on the band waggon like the sheeple they have become.  What happened to the individual, eh?

I find christards offensive.  Their shit is a pack of lies and totally illogical.  It is an insult to the intelligence.  Society is deserving of better.  If christards come into the public domain spouting their bollocks, I will attack but never physically.  I don't hold with physical violence.  Never have.

Anyways, I've banned myself and will not post here again.

If I have offended anyone, ask yourself why you feel offended.

But it doesn't always work that way.

I have joined several Christian forums, and have been banned for doing nothing more than asking legitimate questions. I never cussed, never insulted anyone on these forums.

Yet, within just a few posts, I was banned.

I then continued to visit these forums for a while to see the comments against me after I was gone. Not only was I insulted and misrepresented, but these 'loving Christians' seemed happy that I was destined to eternal torture in Hell, for finite thought crimes.

And this behavior was not isolated. It replayed itself one almost every theist forum I joined.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

I call the worst of the rabid religious around here "cousins". Don't need to be more insulting than that.
