Part of Notre Dame on fire.

Part of Notre Dame on fire.
While I am no fan of the claims of antiquity, I am for preserving human history so it is sad to hear of this. Hopefully this was an accident and not arson.

Very saddened to see this. I visited once in HS. It was heartbreakingly beautiful.

Still, I also don't want Buddhist statues destroyed either. But yea, NYC's Cardinal or Bishop put out a tweet saying something like "Pray for God to protect it."

He kinda sucks at his job doesn't he? But the other thing is I'd be more concerned with anyone that might have been in there.

Umm...that's EXACTLY what a bishop's job is - telling people to pray.

Such a huge shame :Sad A gorgeous building and fabulous piece of history.  Apparently it started due to some mistakes made in the renovation.  What an awful way for such a historic building to go.
In every country and every age, the priest had been hostile to Liberty.

Some people love the middle age goth art, I am more a fan of ancient Egypt. But it is still a part of human history regardless.

If I am remembering my history correctly the Greek Acropolis's changed hands throughout the centuries. And the final blow seemed to be from the fact that it was used (Parthenon) as an ammo depot ignited by the "Venetian bombardment". Not Notre Dame of course. But the point is, nothing lasts for ever. If humans don't destroy it, nature will.

I am hearing reports that this Church is full of wood, so that doesn't help. England was widely known for it's wooden escalators for it's subways. There was a famous fire that killed dozens as a result of the grease catching on fire.

This particular Church has had a long history of neglect financially speaking.

Smart ass. I mean God seems to suck at his job.

I am sorry, even with no name holy places of worship in the world, when I hear nature, not even human disaster, but nature destroying a monument to their cosmic security Guard, Like flooding or lightening destroying a Mosque or Synagogue or Church, all I can think is "Nice God you have. Like when a kid has talent, and paints you a beautiful painting, on par with a secular adult, and what do you do as God? You keep it on the fridge for a while, then when you are feeling like making your kids more insecure and dependent, you flood it, strike it with lightening or set it on fire."

My late Mother was no God, but she preserved a heart I made in grade school. You'd think an all powerful God could protect the monuments to himself done by adoring dedicated supporters.
