James Robison, a televangelist. As a product of rape, he was staunchly against abortion and encouraged women to marry their rapists—like his mom did. He was also known for attacking homosexuality, so much so that he even lost a TV license in Texas in the 1970s for his hate speech. According to Mike Huckabee, Robison was a progenitor of the Moral Majority organization. Not exactly a guy you would want to sit nearby on the bus.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
