There are varying degrees in many of the secret societies. In the Freemasons, for example, those that rule at the top have the knowledge of what the society is really about which is actually devil worship (Bal worship). Also, sun worship. They separate man from Christ.

Well there was a Bavarian Illuminati created in 1776. There are various groups that go by that name today. Hard to say whether an actual "Illuminati" secret society exists which extends back to 1776. I believe they probably do.
