Farming? Thank you SOuthern States

Ofc the op isn’t trying, lol. Still it’s a convo worth salvaging. The majority of the farms people see on the side of the road aren’t producing anything other than a lower tax rate for whatever person or organization holds the deed. Less than one percent of us feed the rest and that number is rapidly shrinking as most of them are in their 70’s. The only reason that any of this works is that we’ve intentionally made it just this side of impossible to make a living farming so that people could afford to buy the food.
-and yet, you don’t need to go to the third world to find a kid that could use some veggies.

How come in Seinfeld they showed a farmer who was a hick then?

I don't know if it is trying or not, but one thing is for sure. It is lying. California produces more than 10% of US Agricultural products every year, and Iowa comes in second with 6-8% every year. The last time I checked neither California or Iowa were southern states, and since 10 plus 6 is more than 15 so that blows the 85% for southern states out of the water right there with just two non southern states.

It depends on the commodity. Iowa grows corn, but not for human consumption. Hay, similarly, an ag product. If your looking at mixed veg for consumption you could needle it down to just two states. Florida all year except the summer, California all year except the winter.

I ate a lot of sweet corn when I lived in Iowa. Yeah, I know that most of the crops there are for feeding livestock - which in turn end up being a food source for people. And yes, the growing season is short but it's enough to supply some of the feed needed for the cattle (mostly dairy) and hogs. Farming is not just growing things to throw in a salad.
No farming is a way of life and a huge business. Did you know Bernie supports free food?

Actually, it would be more correct to say that agriculture/farming is a 'hugely important business' (if people don't farm, people don't eat) rather than 'a huge business'. In your country, it accounts for less than 1.2% of GDP. Boru
