Except the label, nothing about that amazon item says it contains mainly uranium.

In fact the description says the stuff was not chemically analyzed, so source of its low level radioactivity in the substance is not determined, and can be a host of elements besides uranium.

Real powdered uranium ore, commonly called yellow cake, is 60-70% uranium.  Natural occuring uranium consist mainly of the isotope that does’t Go boom or power nuclear reactors, so although uranium ore is radioactive, it’s radioactivity is so low is it entirely safe to handle any amount without any safety equipment.

I have been able to find no evidence that yellow cake is a controlled substance and could be illegal to either acquire or even make.

There are two steps in uranium refinement.   The first step is to chemically separate naturally occurring uranium from the ore to get a solid with high amount of chemically bounded uranium.    This is easy to do, the source of raw material is common to find, and the result is harmless, so probably not illegal to possess.

The second takes the high concentration of uranium, and use physical methods to separate out fissile isotope uranium 235 from the predominant but non-fissile 238.   This is what is Iran is trying to do, and the process would likely kill most people who might attempt it without knowing how to do it, and that is without causing anything nuclear.

Fair enough.  I suspect that the Amazon item is likely pitchblende - active enough to set off your Geiger counter, but not active enough to get a hazmat team to cordon off your house.

And you're correct - the Amazon thing aside, there are plenty of places to purchase yellowcake.

If you ingest uranium you treat for heavy metal poisoning, since the half-life of U238 is 4.5 Billion years. U235 decays much faster, but still in the millions of years. But that was a strange combination of items. My son and I were coming back from a day of shooting and stopped off at the grocery store for steaks and beer. A trunk with guns and alcohol in it. What could go wrong?   Hehe
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

Well, Doc Brown said that by 1985 we'd be able to buy it at any corner drug store.
