Martin Scorsese says Marvel movies are "not cinema"

It comes off as a bit elitist, but I have to say I tend to agree. It's more comics made palatable for the masses than art. Eh, to each their own I suppose.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.

In a broad sense, I think Mr. Scorsese makes a fair point.  It isn't 'cinema' in the same way that burlesque isn't 'theatre'.

Still and all, it's a bit of fun, innit?

Nothing wrong with comic book movies if we remember they are comic book movies. I've encountered people who have threatened my life for calling them "comic book movies". That level of insanity is refreshingly honest.

So, these people say that movies based on comic books shouldn't be called 'comic book movies'?  What else should we call them - electric toasters?

I think the hate came from my suggestion that they weren't high art.

*shrug*  Art is whatever floats your boat.  People pay scandalous prices for Jackson Pollock paintings, even though they look as though they were created by a nearsighted, epileptic baboon.

They might not be high art - but that sorta depends on how high you are.

I dropped acid before seeing Alien in the theater.

Ain't been the same since.

When I was thirteen I discovered scifi. Never picked up another comic book, except for the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers.
